South Dakota

Just returned from a three day pheasant hunt in Turton, S.D. Had a great time, what a beautiful state. I went with my friend Charlie and my son Will. I am in the middle in the selfie and Will on my right. In the other picture I am wearing the white Carhartt coat. The weather was wonderful, hunted the last day wearing only a shirt. Got about 35 birds total in three days. Seventeen hours from Cincinnati straight through. To keep this post tractor related, the combines on I-80 were kicking up so much dust it was like driving in a fog. How many YTers live near Watertown or Aberdeen? Ellis

My Mom is from Lake Norden, a little west of Watertown. It is on the top of my bucket list to go pheasant hunting in South Dakota.

I use to live 70 miles from there along the north Dakota state line. I try to go back there every year to go pheasant hunting

My brother in law just got back from faulkton pheasnut hunting, said they had great weather also.

Pheasant hunting is my favorite. Nothing like walking and talking and watching the dogs. Beats sitting in a cold deer blind freezing your butt off any day!

Must be all the birds are up there. Here in Ohio I haven't seen pheasant in umpteen years. Use to you would see 1 once in a while but now never.

I went to college in Aberdeen and lived there from 1976 to 1985. Lots of fond memories as a single guy :) I still have a sister that lives there, 9 out of 14 of us kids went to Northern State.

I'm a hundred miles south of Aberdeen. The weather has been real nice the last week so the combines have been running. It was 1994 or 1996 we had a blizzard on opening pheasant hunting weekend lost power for ten days.Mother Nature is always in charge of the weather.State says the bird numbers are up this year and I think they are probably right.Glad you had a good hunt.

Tony, how far west? Kraven corner, Ipswich, Roscoe? I used to live in Frederick and worked in Aberdeen at RDO and then State DOT.

I have a letter my Great-Grandfather wrote but never sent dated in the late 1880?s. He was looking to buy a farm in Massachusetts at the time. He mentioned that land in ?Dakota? was available for a Dollar an acre.

Live by Madison about an hour south of Watertown. Been seeing quite a few pheasants this year while combining. Lot of deer moving now also.

I'm just 20 miles from Turton. Could have given you a tour of a Case collection or a ride in the combine.
Better still, a crew like yours could run my combine, cart and truck and I could go hunting!

I haven't been to SD but from the look of that first picture people might think you and I are related.

I grew up 8 miles from there. I know right where you are. Used to eat sunday dinners at the building behind you. Haven't been around much lately. I don't recognize anyone in your pictures. Still live within an hour of there. It was a great area to grow up!
