when i start the engine of the ford 8n There is a spark where the shaft touches the dash and the carburetor???? Help before I have a fire

Does it only spark when you hit the starter or when you turn on the key?

You have short somewhere for sure.

If the ground wire from the battery is still at the battery box good chance it is getting bad and need to be moved and or cleaner up remember clean bright and tight

Move the ground cable from the sheet metal directly to the engine block. Be sure to run a size 0 or 00 cable not an automotive cable. Then ground the engine to the sheet metal, this can be a smaller cable.

What's happening is the engine has lost it's ground, the body components are providing the ground. What's scary is the fuel line, oil pressure gauge line, temperature gauge tube, they are possibly part of the ground now. Not good!
