Got some tractor time in.

The guy who had rented my farm this year finally got his beans off so I was able to get out and do some plowing. It's still pretty wet tho. My ground is more clay than I had hoped, at least towards the south side. The north is more mellow. The 5-16s plow really gave my 1030 a work out. She should be able to handle that plow in 4th gear pretty good, but 3rd was a good load in this stuff. Going to need to do some work on the ditches too. They have been treated poorly for a while it looks like.

Plowing

Not so familiar with Case. Looked it up, that is a 100 hp tractor, big for its day!

In my tough clayish ground it might pull 5 bottoms, I pulled 4-16 with an 87hp tractor, but when the tractor got tired it didn t go so well, never could go fast it pulled hard in my dirt. Then I pulled a 4-20 with a 140hp tractor, at times it went easy, at times it was a full pull....

Love the lugging ability of those ole Case engines with the 5" stroke. Neighbor had a new 1030 back in late '60,s. Pulled 6-16's pretty easy. In all fairness, tho, he put a M&W turbo on it. Our ground was pretty mello also as he pulled it pretty good speed also. Brute of a tractor they were.

I am assuming that is a diesel. I did not realize a diesel would put out a flame like that. I have seen on this gasers when I was young working on the farm in Sheboygan County.

Where in WI are you located. I am in La Crosse.

Yep, looks mighty wet. That front end looks a little light. I am surprised you are not spinning out.

That 1030 sure sounds nice and does not sound overloaded most of the time. I am not very familiar with the Case's but always liked the appearance from the 30 Series on up.

Thanks for taking the time to share in this busy season. I enjoy your funny post everyday.

Does not the renter put in the crop next year?
Why are you plowing if he?s still farming your place? Just for the fun of it??

Sure sounds great, my neighbor had a 1030, I plowed a lot with. Your lights are just as good as his were,or mine on the 830. We always said they were as bright as pee holes in the snow, could almost see your front tires.

I have a Cockshutt PD40 Golden Eagle that at night with pulling 4-16s would turn the muffler orange and through fire 2 ft. out of muffler.

Looks great Jon.
Kevin finally got the beans of a couple of fields here, and a have the replacement accumulator all installed on the 8358 plow. I hope to put the 930 to work tomorrow.

PS you sure can tell when the injection pump delivers a bit more fuel to maintain engine RPM.

Please educate me. When I was kid in the 60's, all we did was plow. Occasionally we used chisel plow or a subsoiler to break up a hard pan.

I can't recall when I've seen a farmer plow in
Terre Haute. Either they use a disk or a disk/chisel plow combo.

So, why do some on YT plow and no plowing in my area?

Where you are deapvtillage is more important due to compaction. And it works better because it's dryer. Around here rippers are not used much because frost goes down 3-4' most years so there is not much hard pan. Plus most falls it's very wet here like this year and dragging them through the mud only digs trenches and doesn't shatter the pan anyway. Most around here use chizel plows of some sort, but plows are used again some to get the bennifits of turning weeds and pests under. It also helps to get the soil as dark as possible to help with warming in spring. I plow because I don't have a chizel yet.
