Like the Willys. My grandfather had a green one. Problem is he bought the elllll cheapo model. Those came with a straight 4cyl like an army jeep. There was an optional 6 cylinder if I am not mistaken. Thing couldn't get out of its own way. Also after about seven or eight years the body was just melting into a puddle of rust. M6 dad thought his H tractor handled better.

My granddad had one, too- a brown one. We inherited it after he passed away. Sisters and I used to drive it to the bus stop, about a quarter mile, sure beat walking.

Hi:
My dad bought a 1948 Jeep station wagon in about 1954. The early ones had round tops on the rear wheel openings, later were like the photo shown here. Ours had the 4 cyl flat head engine with 3 spd and overdrive. We took several vacation trips with it, two adults, two kids, about 250 miles. IMHO, the engine was too small for all the stuff we put in the car, i.e., 4 people and luggage.
Thanks for reviving the memories!

I remember the flipper hub caps like are on the '49 Merc. I "lusted in my heart" for a set when they were popular. I never was a fan of the early Ford Mustangs. Just had too many Falcon parts for me to get serious about them being a serious hot rod. Like the Falcon, lots of "scabbed on" parts and Falcon suspension and all. But as I recall Lee Iacocca did make a name for himself with it.
