I was in local hardware store and asked for a couple feet of every color insulated wire to mark my Hydraulic hoses. The young clerk showed me some pretty cable ties in all the pretty colors. I left feeling smarter and happy. Perhaps everybody already knew

If you run out of colors you can double up the ties, or leave some with a short tail.Anything to make a distinctive ID. Used that once on changing a hyd bank on a combine.

I used a label maker for rewiring a 36v golf cart, the problem with that was the paper labels do not stick to any dirt very good. I need to stock up on some other colors beside black. :)

At car shows you can buy all kinds of 7 inch multi color tywraps They come in colors and also Florencent colors too. Screaming orange, yellow, green, purple, majenta, and yellow. Here is a little bundle I keep in my tool box. Also come in those little tiny 4 inch ones too. Also check Ebay. Also what works well is a couple of cheap bottles of nail polish. Just a dab of a color and give it a couple of minutes to dry. The stuff is very tough. These little dabs on on the side of a storage rack.

IH truck dealership I worked had a body shop and a telephone repairman would give them bundles of phone wire like mentioned above. Some had been damaged by lightning strikes and melted together!! Some even had different color tracers. Works good on hyd hoses and air lines.

I use the multi-colored spiral chicken leg bands.
They come is a pack of 50 or so for just a few bucks.
They last forever in the sun and don't get in the way of anything.
Put one on the implement hose behind the male coupler and a matching color on the
tractor's hydraulic line leading up to the female coupler. Works really well.
