In August of that year at the battle of Savo Island the US got the worst butt kicking in the history of the Navy.
The fierce fighting around the Solomon Islands will see the IJN and USN trade ship for ship in a terrible battle of attrition for most of another year.
During this year long campaign on - 10/11/42 at Cape Esperance the US will get their licks in and give better than they get for a good tactical victory though not a strategic one.

We people should not forget about the ups and downs on the road to victory.I remember My dads cousins talking among themselves about things they had do during the war.When us younger ones came around they stopped talking.I understand why they stopped talking.It is a wonder they all did not go nuts for things they had to do.My dad talked very little about the things he did in the occupation army of japan under McCarther.Many sacrifices by our people for what whe have today.Keep the history coming and thank you.Scott
