Rotary mower gearbox

I need to replace the gearbox on my rhino se6 mower. I was going to rebuild it, but after looking at online prices for after market gearboxes, that looks like the way to go. I don't understand the horsepower rating of a gearbox. Can anyone explain it to me? Thanks again- Morgan

Gearboxes are rated according to the amount of power that they are designed to handle.

Not sure what gearbox you have but I have a new, unused gearbox that I picked up as a spare for a HD IMT 6' rotary cutter that I once owned. This model gearbox was once commonly used on other rotary cutters including Rhino. It's for sale if you can use it.

I have photos of the one that I have.

I'll send some to you if you send me an email message.

For smaller, single shaft mowers, 45 and 90 hp gearboxes are the norm. Sometimes you see a 45 on a 6' which is pushing the envelope and considered a light duty. I have a Kodiac medium duty 6' with the 90 hp. Easy to tell the difference in a glance....45 looks small on the deck whereas the 90 looks to fit. Sometimes there is an id plate affixed to the box telling the hp rating and gear ratio.
