price of scrap metal

I had called Rice Lake a week or two ago and I think it was around $60 a ton. Today I took aluminum, brass and copper to Eau Claire. They are paying $105 a ton for scrap iron and the price had not change for awhile. Less than 70 miles and $45 difference.

Never ever hurts to check price on anything you do anymore . Liquid wrench is as cheap as 3.29$ and as expensive as 6.99$ for the exact same can depending where I buy it

Maybe Rice Lake is selling to Eau Claire. If they are the middle man, they"re going to pay you less.

Cost of transport to the mill has a lot to due with prices, as does local competition and honesty (should that word even be used in conjunction with a scrap dealer??? LOL) Living in the rust belt and close to several mills means we generally have the highest prices but last I sold was close to $200 ton for prepped heavy scrap. Unprepped and sheetmetal was about half that. If your buyers export to China the trade tarifs have hurt prices paid but if going to domestic furnaces the price has gone up for same reason.

Watching what other people bring in it never ceases to amazes me how much money they throw away by not spending a small amount of effort sorting and cutting their scrap.

Seems like domestic scrap prices would go down if exporting to China is not worth it anymore.
i.e. there would be a glut of scrap going no where therefore domestic furnaces could pay less.

Last time I checked 60.00 was the going price here. Don't know for sure, but metal place here was purchased by a Japanese company. Stan
