Lots of rain

After a terribly dry winter, spring, and early summer I believe our drought here in central Kansas is finally over. Maybe a little TOO over. Since Friday night we've gotten just under 6 inches of rain in our area a half-hour drive north of Wichita. It's still coming down as I type this Monday evening and by the looks of the radar we're a long ways from being done. Due to the flat topography here we have water standing everywhere - a lot of fields look like lakes. Very little wheat has been sowed yet but in a normal year most folks would be finishing up about now. Wheat can usually do well here even if sowed in early November so there's still time provided we get a week or two of sunny weather to dry things out. If that doesn't happen things could get a little dicey, though.

We are often shoveling snow by thanksgiving. Winter wheat doesn?t work well, winter is too harsh. Rye can make it. Not that much winter grains, or small grains at all, are grown around here any more.

Looks like we just got pulled out of the flooding watches, things are shifting east up here. Next county over is still in the watch, looks like a lot of rain still south of us.

I can sympathize with you, not that we have been swamped with 6 inches in three days, just rain and showers everyday. Keeps things a muddy mess. Wheat started going in here two weeks ago, and will continue to go in till November.

Same here, Bruce. A few guys finishing up silage, but most are waiting for dry weather to get at the soys and wheat. White beans are looking pretty Brown and may get rejected. Corn is dry enough to combine, some high moisture silos are filled. It's standing well, so it can wait til the beans are off.....for now.

Thanks to Florence we have had plenty here in eastern NC. the soil is sandy so it drains good. looks like we are in for more later this week but not any near as much as Florence brought us.

I actually forgot to look this morning when I pulled out, but I would guess I have had over 8" just North of you now, since early Saturday morning. I had just over 7" early last evening, and it's rained pretty much ever since.
We still have beans to cut and wheat to plant here, but it is sure reviving the pastures and helping the ground water. We have had very little rain since last October, until about 4 weeks ago. Bob

We?re finally getting some rain here and I?m glad picked up my triticale seed today going to drill the next days it?s dry enough. If it doesn?t dry out I?ll drill it in the spring wouldn?t have got a crop anyway as dry as it was .
