My homemade 30 inch brush hog at work

My homemade 30 inch brush hog goes where no lawn mower can go. The boss told me it's time to start doing my fall work in her gravel pit. We usually wait for a frost. Forecasting possible frost in a few nights. So she put me to work.

I removed the 42 inch mower deck and replaced the turf tires on the old craftsman that has a 7 speed gearbox. That gives me a lot of clearance to go over rough terrain. Mower blade on my 30 inch brush hog is 6 inches off the ground. It's no struggle cutting small saplings. The 3.5 hp briggs does just fine. If I hit something I shouldn't no damage, it kills the engine.

The pics of the down hill to the gravel pit. We cleared the hill shide about 3 winters ago. Mowing the place has an added surprise. You can see clover growing between the flowers in third pic.

To keep everyone happy, I need to mention TRACTORS. So this 30 inch brush hog can go places where no Tractor can go

MAYBE there will be no damage to the engine. I've seen flywheel keys sheared off because of an object that was hit with blades.

Hopefully the belt will slip before it will shear a key, but the keys are easy to change once you get some
practice. I always lube the crankshaft a little so they shear a little easier, I have done a lot of rough
cutting with lawn mowers.

That Snapper mower deck is the perfect base for building what you built. I have no doubts that your neat machine works very well. Keep on tinkering with fun projects !

Russ,
I did design it so belt will slip. Only run it at half speed with the smallest pulley I could find for motor. Instead of using a 33 in blade, I use a 30 inch to give extra clearance between blade and deck.

Idiot could loose an eye in a heart beat. Notice that the mower blades are level with his eyes, all it would take is for something to come out of there at eye level. All is good till something goes bad and he sure is asking for it in my opinion.
