OT----Medicare Advantage

I am really confused as to whether to apply for MA or just stay with Blue Cross Blue Shield suplement. My wife and I are in early 70s and on Medicare.
Did extensive research with mixed opinions.
Anyone here with advise?

I have Medicare part D through IU health. Only change I'm making in increasing the dental plan. My
golden years is taking a lot of gold just to keep my teeth. Over $3K/tooth for a root canal plus
crown.

I have no need for the meds.

i was able to find a good agent who understands my needs. I highly recommend a GOOD agent. hard to find but worth looking! agent doesn't cost u a dime.

I as you had this decision to make several months
ago. I was on a group plan and my preimiums
where way too high. Like was suggested talk with
your friends and associates and find a GOOD agent
you can trust.

I ended up with Plan G Medicare plan and so far it
has been great!

Again your friends associates co- workers are a
great resource

Good luck!

It depends on what you did before retiring. Were you working for a company/government agency that subsidized your Blue Cross coverage?, Will they continue to subsidize if you change companies? I was a government employee and the government subsidized Blue Cross has my health care, when I retired part of the deal said it carried over at the same rate (70% of the premium) however if I decide to try to change companies it will have to be one that is on the government list for all employees. Chances are I get to pay a lot more. Guess what I'm not rocking that boat!

Tried a MA plan. Would not use again. Company we were with turned out to be high on declining claims. Some were 2 yrs
getting resolved and some we paid. We changed to plan F and supplemental with Blue Cross. Costs a little more but has
paid 100% of our medicals. $95,000 for wifes hear attack, $60,000 for knee replacement. Several more thousands for my
back surgery, both knees and shoulders scoped, surgery to repair ruptured achilles. All covered 100%. They are phasing
out Plan F in 2020. Only those previously enrolled in plan F will be allowed continued use.

Have Kaiser MA,very happy so far. It was top rated,in our area. My older sister was on it longer than me. She loves it,have the prescription part also.

Another valuable resource is the insurance claims person at your doctor's
office. He or she may tell you which setup pays their claims better. Many
advantage plans require pre-approval, but one can go to any doctor that
takes medicare, and any hospital that takes it will not turn one away. Plan
G here also. On the third year of this coverage. It is my belief that when
plan F ends, that group of insured will no longer have new, younger
enrollees and the premiums will increase drastically.

I have regular Medicare and a plan F supplement with United Healthcare ( AARP). If Medicare approves the claim, my supplement pays the
rest. I think with regular Medicare you can use any doctor that accepts Medicare.

We are with Mutual of Omaha and they have been real good in paying out and coverage. Wouldn't change from them. Have Humana for prescriptions. We don't have that many so it
is adequate for what we use.

Your doctor's claims girl is the best advice.

My dad had an advantage plan and I think the name comes from giving the insurance company the advantage. We've got Blue Cross supplement and it pays everything Medicare doesn't. You don't need insurance until you need it, and an advantage plan will leave you swinging in the wind.

You can get lower premiums with an Advantage plan.

You can get better coverage with a supplemental plan.

The key provision for me is that you can switch to (or among) advantage plans every year regardless of your health or medical issues. Switching to (or among) supplemental plans after the initial enrollment period requires you to pass the insurance company's medical screening. Once you give up supplemental coverage, you may never be able to get back on it.

It's a very personal decision based on your financial resources, health, tolerance for risk, and availability of medical providers with the advantage plans.

I'm getting requests to join a MA group of some sort. I'm happy with what I have. Kinda like when you sell something and regret it......I'll stay put.
