gMail notification?

I have desktop PC with IE7 and Gmail.
I understand that new mail notification is unavailable for my setup on desktop.
However--I can receive notification on my smart phone and my tablet.
Is there any explanation?

Have you considered utilizing a different browser such as Chrome or Firefox? I have Gmail on Chrome with no problems. Did I imply I dislike IE if not I do dislike it.

Yes, Gmail works great on Chrome, but I'm not crazy about the new format!

Maybe be cause your IE7 was replaced by IE8 in March 2009.

And your smart phone is using a "modern" browser that gmail is configured to work with better.

I agree about the format. Gmail is worse now than several years ago. So I wouldn't tell anyone to start using it as it is now.

Which Operation system does your PC use?
XP, Windows 7, Windows 8, 10 ?

If it is at least windows 7 then make sure you run all your windows updates.
