kerosene fuel

A friend of mine said he's been using kerosene fuel in his diesel tractors instead of biodiesel fuel he adds 1 quart of transmission oil to five gallons of kerosene anyone else tried this before? never heard of it before I know that biodiesel is hard on old fuel systems that don't get used everyday

Diesel engines can often burn what they compress to produce power. On the other hand they need clean fuel that will compress. I would suggest go at it until it quits and let us know how it worked out.

I went to check cows one day it?s a 100 milt round trip fuel gauge didn?t work but I thought I had enough fuel to make it well I didn?t but I did have a 2.5 gallon jug of hytran with me I dumped it in and was able and had enough to make it back to the fuel station . The original owners manual for the 95 model year dodge with the Cummins had a list of specs on the grades of jet fuel you could use in the engine and some grades required you to add 15 40 engine oil to the fuel becuse it was so dry but it could be safely burned in the engines the reprint of the owners manual has dropped the information about burning jet fuel probably something to do with the green police and burning engine oil in the fuel if it was my guess

Yes kerosene is way expensive but my guess Is he?s getting it free or at a huge discount next to free for reasons not disclosed

I believe kerosene is a step above #1 winter diesel. And #1 is overly refined for a hard working hot engine, kerosene is that much worse....

While it will run the engine, and perhaps run it a long time if it?s a parade machine that does no work, it seems a foolish idea for a working tractor to abuse it with such silly ness of concocting such a poor fuel.

biodiesel has been a blessing since sulfur was basically eliminated from diesel, it replaces the lubricity and makes engines last again.

I have a cousin that has a repair facility at an airport. He gets jet fuel from preflight samples and takes it home and dumps it in a tank to let any possible water settle out. Then he uses it to fuel his Volkswagen diesels. I don't know if he adds any lubricant, but if it is necessary I feel it would do it. He has been doing this for quite a few years.

I had 1999 chev 6.5 diesel when I work at the airport we sump jet aircraft no place to store it so we burn in trucks
mix 1 qt 30w oil to 10 gal no problem.

#1 diesel May be better in extreme cold. Many years a VW owner said he had to mix a gallon of gas to 10 gallons of diesel to keep diesel from melling.

I have no experience with diesels.

I work on high pressure fuel injection pumps. Bio-diesel has been the biggest boon to our business since the days of the Oldsmobile Diesel automobile.

They trap and bond to moisture which makes it terrible for the highly machined and expensive alloys that fuel injection pumps are made of.

While it can be safe to use if properly mixed and the fuel system maintained using the stuff leaves little room for error and the expense can wipe out the savings very quickly.

I would think the friction modifiers in modern transmission fluid would be problematic, but what do I know?

Kerosene is fine in most any diesel engine. A lot of us in cold climates blend kero and diesel so it doesn?t gel as easy. The hard part is finding undyed kerosene.

Jet fuel is also allowed. Military generator diesels are rated to run on Jet fuel. Among the differences between jet fuel and kero is that jet fuel has an additive to prevent combustion in crashes.
Differences

Diesel is $3.20/ gallon kerosene is $3.70/ gallon not that big of difference and you must not know much about biodielsel if you run it every day no big deal but if it takes a year to empty a tank it can ruin your hole fuel system

Military uses aviation kerosene in Diesel engines to simplify the logistics .
A diesel that is borderline passing an emissions test will usually pass when fueled with kerosene .

Had 1962 VW diesel. Walked 1/2 mile at wind cxhill of-60 when it gelled. There after it got 1/2 and 1/2 diesel and kerosene during cold weather. Ran it 250,000 miles and never had engine problems

Never had a problem and burned a lot of atf there
are no clutch packs in the diesel fuel system so how
will the modifiers hurt anything ?
