Key switch on lawn mower

This lawn mower i am fixing for my parents has a 5 pole ignition switch. Just replaced the switch and all new wiring. The ground terminal broke off the switch. It starts up but you cut the key off it keeps running is this cuz the ground terminal broke off?

Thanks

If you are up to "rigging" things, where the wire goes to the ign. switch, remove it and connect to a SPST toggle or a pushbutton switch with the second terminal tied to the engine block or mower metal chassis somewhere. When you are through running, just flip the switch......spring loaded or push button are better as you "won't forget to flip it back to off before trying to restart". Grin.

I put that kind of setup on my BCS tiller- will pick up a momentary switch today and replace the toggle. Thanks for the tip. Will save a few useless pulls on the rope!

The better thing would be to take the switcy out and take it with you. NAPA or a good lawn mower parts place. You wouldn't believe how many types of those switches there are. Check out a lawn mower repair shop. They might let you go out back and pull one from a junk mower for a few bucks.

I have drilled the rivet and then used a small screw to hold the wire for a ground.(if you ruin the switch you are not out anything, and you might fix it for nothing).
