Black Combines

Spotted 2 pure black combines in the Flying J parking lot this afternoon. They had no markings at all and were pure black. Had tracks on the front as tall as a regular combine tires and tracks on the back also. Didn't see any headers. They were rather boxy looking but huge.

Were they parked near the Black Helicopters ?

A number of years ago John Deere had several test prototype combines in the Pierre, SD area that were painted black. The local JD dealer wouldn't reveal the test location to anyone.

There is also a German company that has black units. Taking them around to harvesting demmos.

Dealer in Lucknow had a black and dark grey Gleaner, it was a demo, not sure where it went.

Gleaner produced a black combine when they came out with the new Super Series re-designed model a few years ago. It may have been painted that way to take to farm shows & field demo's. We don't see many Gleaners ,their dealer network is sparse here.

Look underneath the units. There you will find the markings "ETD". That's all I want to say about that.

Unless the Flying J is also the local Fendt dealer lot, those combines are long gone. There is no way he can go back and look at them, let alone start crawling all over them looking for casting marks... In fact that's likely to get him clubbed upside the head with a cheater pipe by the truck driver.

Probably should've taken pictures. It would've at least cut down on the "black helicopter" comments. The universal online rule is, "Pictures, or it didn't happen."

no markings at all i would guess prototype, experimental units going out to get real life field testing as this is the season.

kinda like the big 3 camouflaging new car models. don't want anyone to know who's it is. i rode in the new Chrysler Pacifica a couple years ago before it was on the market. it was so heavily camo'ed even riding in it and crawling around it testing i had absolutely NO idea what it looked like. even the interior was camo'ed other than the speedometer. even camo'ed the Chrysler guys made us put a car cover over it in the parking lot if unattended.

at Gehl our prototype units were still painted red but no decals. i think there were a couple OLD round balers that were sent out with new experimental stuff inside but since they had old tin and decals on the outside noone would have bothered thinking they were anything special. i'm sure the others do something similar too. hide it in plain sight so to speak.

The auto makers been known to take their "test" vehicles and wrap them in canvas except for lights windows etc so that the competion can't see the coming years designs.

Could be the new Fendt Ideal or Massey Ferguson Ideal. Both have been demo harvesting here and other places in Europe.

Maybe the fiat sold cnh to the Italian mofia and that?s going to be the new color for cnh global equipment
