Friend is looking at one. It's rough but cheap. Was running when parked couple years ago. Asking price is $500. I'm guessing it's a hydrostatic transmission? No clutch pedal? Anything to look out for? If he doesn't get it...............nah.

looks to me like the standard transmission with a high low, also looks like a clutch pedal on the left. but i'm no expert

Best we could tell,in the rain, both pedals on left are brakes. One on right works the throttle linkage.

A 204 is shuttle shift. Not familiar with it, never heard anything bad about it.

Be sure it has power steering, if not, pass it by.

The engine is a z134 Continental. Good engine, some problems with cracked blocks on the earlier ones, but not too common. Check for coolant in the oil, they have wet sleeves with oring seals that sometimes fail, especially if the head was off and the engine turned.

The transmission is probably full of water if it's been outside. Crack the drain plugs before starting it, let the water out first and it won't have a frothy mess to drain.

How are the tires? An important factor on the value of the tractor.

Overall Ferguson tractors of that era were good machines.

The pedals on the Right side are, left forward and throttle, center throttle only, Right Reverse and throttle. A great set up when all is adjusted and working properly, of course that would have been ??? 60 + years ago?? My first thought would be to drain the transmission, the big shed will seep rain into the trans via shifter levers.
