Better battery for mowers...

Been buying those super start national batterys for the mowers..Not paying attention but they are only warranted for
90 days..this last one went out after only a year...Keep low amp
auto chargers on them...50 bucks is a bit pricey for something with that short a life span...
Any suggestions on other batterys...these are labeled for 30 hp equipment...From oreillys

For about $100 you can get a car battery if there is enough space for it in your equipment.
They "should" outlast the warranty a few years.

You don't want a maintainer, you want a float charger. This may be incorrect, but it was explained to me by my Interstate rep; maintainers charge all the time, a float charger shuts OFF at the set voltage then doesn't turn on till the battery gets bellow the setting for turn on. Also those U1 batteries need to be charged at only 1-1.5 amps or they can overheat which damages them.

I either get an Interstate or a Napa battery and
routinely get about 8 years out of mower batteries. I
put one of those cheap Harbor Freight trickle
chargers on there for about three days a couple of
tones during the winter and that?s it. Sounds like
you?re over-maintaining. I had one go bad and it
cooked a brand new Interstate battery on my whole
farm generator. I have too much conscience to
exchange it - I bought another battery and the guys
at my starter shop had a good laugh about the
cooked specimen.

Like others said, get a float charger. If the charging system is working it should only need to be on the charger in the off season.

If the charging system is not working, or there is a drain, that needs to be fixed. Keeping the top of the battery clean also helps. If it is getting wet from electrolyte splashing out, try letting it seek it's own level. As long as the plates are covered is all that is necessary.

Those little batteries are short lived anyway, they need all the help they can get!

If any way to make an automotive battery fit, it will last longer.

Any battery you use on a mower is susceptible to a lot of vibration. I think that is what shorts them out internally. I have switched to a AGM battery and have been getting good service from it. Been 3 years since install. Paid $75.00 for it online.

Had good service from Deka small equipment batteries. Terrible service from Interstate and Napa small batteries.

Geo TH always recommends the sealed ones from Menards, but now Menards had a different line of batteries. I get 5 years out of
the $17 ones, but I get a lot of corrosion around them. In the future I will try to buy the sealed ones, I think they're about
$35.

I have been having very good results with Interstate branded mower batteries. The last one lasted 5 years. The biggest issue for long battery life is don't let them run dead. Keep the tops clean and dry. A wet top between the posts will slowly discharge the battery.

Vibration, especially on a zero turn zipping around at speeds that look like they are in the Indy 500.
No suspension under the battery.

Whoops! Got busy and forgot my post...the chargers are all float...The mowers have charging systems..I have been putting the floats on all the time...Other batterys seem to work ok with that...Probably just a bad one..One in the snapper seems to be doing ok...
