Out In The Woods

Out in the woods today cutting trails with the 730 Case and 6 foot rotary mower. Still lots of colour out there. That ominous sky did drop a little rain on me before I got home but hardly worth mentioning.

I could still see some combines working as I came home in the rain but they weren't making much dust and I'm guessing the canola was going straight into the drier. No way there is any dry grain out in the field today.

OK Rusty - fill us in on the old building and the rust bucket in the middle there -- curiosity kills Ya know !! Roy from northwest Iowa

What's that in front of the tractor? A plastic snow plow? Eh!! Something there can't make it out,

Front view. Its a 7 foot Leon dozer blade to cleaar the way for the mower. That building was a barn on my great uncle's place built about 1947 of mostly hand formed cement blocks. The roof collapsed about 15 years ago. The car is a 39 Pontiac I believe. Its on my list of things to do.

More of the "curiosity killed the cat". What is the purpose of the trails you're cutting? I sure like the profile of those Case standard tractors.

I just like to keep the trails passable. They will grow up solid with poplar trees if left un attended for a few years. Some would call it a waste of time and money but its my time and my money and I enjoy it.
And yes, the 30 series Case has one of the nicest front ends of any tractor in my opinion. This is the 730 that my uncle bought in 1964 so it knows its way around that farm by now.

Very nice pictures Rusty, this one is really nice to me. I wish I had a dozer on one of my Cases. Guess you got me thinking.... I sure like your trials.

I enjoy working my tractors also. I don't enjoy getting cold, but I do like plowing snow. I enjoy bush hogging the pasture, mowing hay, raking and baling. Don't enjoy stacking bales on the wagon, but that must be done also. Good looking trails. Whether on foot, riding an atv, tractor or motorcycle those trails would make for an enjoyable time. gobble

I love the photos, Rusty! I have been slowly working on clearing a trail in my back section.. It has been too darn wet and I have been suffering from a BAD poison ivy outbreak and infection the last 3 weeks to make any progress. I probably cut a 10-foot wide swath that goes back about 50-75 feet, but it is REALLY thick back there. Poplar, buckthorn, and just a whole lot of vegitation (not to mention very soft lowland) are my obstacles. Would like to go far enough back where I can't see the house, and then create a boardwalk out of pallets that lead to a small 10x10 cabin of a makeshift design. You know, kind of a little escape away from the house where I can look out over the rest of our property..

But I have to wait for a couple good heavy frosts, and this infection to go away before I even think of going back there again!

You have some nice "wilderness" there too Ken. Hope the poison ivy clears up and you can get back on the job soon.

Don't forget that poison ivy sap is in the vines and roots too. wear goggles and long sleeves, and wash them afterwords when your done. Some say to wear a mask when cutting them with powered equipment so it doesn't get your lungs. Earl
