Gas screen filter?

I have a JD lawn mower with a gas screen filter under the gas cap. It helps keep the crap out of the gas tank.

Do they sell aftermarket screen filter that I could use on my Kawasaki 4010 mule? Twice I've drained the tank, removed the electric fuel pump and found a lot of dirt in the tank and cleaned the fuel pump filter with carb cleaner.

I've done everything I can think of to keep the crap out of the tank. I store the spout I use on gas cans in a ziplock bag to keep it clean. All my gas cans have OEM sprouts on them. I need a screen filter that will fit in the small opening to gas tank.

Does anyone know where I can buy one or get the materials to make one?
A new fuel pump is almost $700. Fuel injectors are about $150 each.

I use a metal funnel made for gas that has a screen built into the neck. You should be able to find one at a decent farm or hardware store. It will even help screen water out of the gas as it's going through it.

All the various gas tank fill openings on my equipment are different sizes so finding a screen that would fit might be a real task. I use one of these when I need to screen out crud.

I think you just need to be more careful about keeping your containers and spouts clean. That's the good thing about plastic ones, when they're almost empty you can look inside and see if there is any dirt. I use a funnel with a fine screen as much as possible but on our JD zero turn the tank is small and no gauge, but if I stick the spout on our containers down in the neck it will fill and shut of automatically when full, works great. Most lawn mowers have a transparent filter between the tank and fuel pump that is inexpensive and easy to change.

I kept finding dirt in my diesel fuel.I use a large funnel with a fine mesh screen soldered in it,and would find dirt, rust etc., in the screen. So I switched to another fuel station, and, end of dirty fuel. My tractor filters are now always clean when I change them, and so is the fuel bowl on my gas tractor.Mark.

Your maybe just far enough north that there are snowmobile shops??
They will have the funnels with brass screen molded into the outlet. They will filter out crud as well as water.

They also make drop-into-the-filler-neck strainers. I do not know of one made specifically for your 4010 but there might be one out there that will fit.

Guys,, I have a screen funnel, next to impossible to use on mule.

I use on many other things. Hard to use on truck. Like the mule, the gas fill is on the vertical side.

If I had the screen, I'll make one.

Anyone know where I can buy screen?

He is probably getting that crap in the gas when he buys it from the station. So no matter how he handles the gas at home he will have that problem.

Email me, I picked up some really fine stainless steel mesh screen years ago. If I can find it I will put a piece in an envelope and sent it to you. NO CHARGE!!

Email is open

Yes! I have 2 like that, I use them whenever possible. Late last fall I bought what was supposed to be winter diesel, when I poured it in the tractor there were a few ice crystals in the funnel. I questioned the station owner about it and he assured me it was treated fuel and no one else had complained. I drained it out and saved it for summer, bought some new winter diesel.

The KISS system. Go buy a package of coffee filters. Lay a couple in the funnel. Try to get the large diameter ones.

If you are getting dirty fuel, check the bottom of your fuel cans or pour fuel in a clean bucket to verify. You can also replace the strainer "sock" on the pump separately. Also check the vent line, make sure it is connected and filtered. I've see screens like that on Hydraulic tanks, diesel tanks and marine apps, maybe search internet for products/stores like that.

Are you saying Marathon or Phillips is selling dirty fuel?

I do look in gas cans for dirt.

The spout I attach to gas cans is kept clean in a Ziplock.

Vent on Kawasaki first goes through a charcoal filter and an inline paper
filter.

I can't figure out how tank has dirt in it unless it falls off the Kaw gas
cap when I remove it. That's why I would like to make a screen filter like I
have on JD garden tractor and 3 other devices to keep the crap out.

My fuel pump has a sock like filter attached to the intake. I can't imagine
how all the dirt gets in. I happy so far no damage to pump or injectors.
