wild weather

Been a heck of as ride the last week here in West Michigan. Twister came down the east , west road I live by and removed a few barns and tore some homes up. Two homes west of me lost pole barns. One was deposited in my hay field. Wonder how long I will be finding nails with my tires? Three homes on my east side took a whipping. One lost his round corn crib and huge hip roof barn. It was over 100 years old and well kept. Always painted and looking nice. Sure looks strange to look that way and only see a silo left. A 1/2 mile later it flattened a confinement hog set up. That fella lost 2 barns with 3800 hogs inside. I lost a few limbs off shade trees and some siding of the old barn but somehow we were spared. Did loose power for 3 days. This has taught me I better hunt up a used PTO generator. Wife almost came unglued. See said that see married a man who owns two of everything. Tractors, balers, dicks, semis, but not even one generator! Anyone else get spanked by weather this week? Al

Sorry about your rough weather- in the Pacific Northwest, we just continue to wish for a little rain- less than 1 1/2" since the first of May. And everyone thinks its always wet here!

Did find one item in your list of things you have two of to be kind of amusing. I imagine its a typo. . .

That guy with the three legged dog who had his home disintegrated is always at Trufant and Burley Park. We were at Burley Park this morning and they announced over the P A that they were taking up a collection for him right there at the park today.

I am generator poor. LOL I have a standby generators at the farm and my house. I still have the PTO generator and several gas powered one too. I remember fighting the cold in Jan. without electric and hundreds of hogs and cattle needing water. I think of mine a cheap insurance.

It has been raining since Friday in Eastern Iowa, Western Wisconsin got record flooding last week.

That third item in your list...I never met a fella with two of those...just saying. I have to assume it is not what it sounds like. We were pouring concrete on Saturday when that front come thru. Fortunately in the barn but the person loading the mixer out of the back of the truck got caught mid load in a deluge. Was nice to see how the new floor is keeping the water outside the shed.

ROFLMAO. You paid more attention than I did. I skimmed right over that one.

They said last night that it would most likely be south of us today, but I just checked the radar and there's another one bearing down on us. I've had 7 inches (of rain Dave) already. I'm about to cry uncle.

Consider a portable generator if you do not require large power requirements. The fuel savings will be significant. Some years ago a neighbor kept his Farmall 560 running around the clock to make sure his basement sump pump continued to keep the basement from flooding.
Glad you escaped significant damage

My take on that is if you have tractors around, one will probably start. Whereas a little engine that's been sitting is quite often just another problem.

I'm so paranoid about losing power I've considered getting a back up PTO generator for my PTO generator!

Here is an old mans take on the PTO generators, and yes I know there on folks on here that swear by them but. After 28 years in the Kubota business I have see this. They work well for static loads, like a milk barn and things but whole house you get the rpms right and the out put right then your refrigerator kicks on then you either have low voltage or have to change the tractor speed. Over the years I have seen many appliance burned out from folks trying to run a house with pto generators. Maybe the voltage is regulated better on these latter units but me myself would look for either a diesel or lp gas generator and install a automatic transfer switch. Sure makes life easier. Just an old mans experience and again you might get buy with a pto unit but they sure are cheap in this part of the country when at auction.

Yea that stood right out when I read it. :) I wonder if he owns any disks? Spellcheck/ fat fingers sure are fun.
