First ear of corn

I picked this ear on the edge of one of my fields, the ends are dying, but middle seems to be good and packing starch.

This is waxy corn.

The kernels are a little smaller than I would like.

It all depends on how large the cob is inside and how many ears to a stalk for yield. I have had years where it was all cob but those do not look like it. Still that one looks very good.

That sure looks nice. Won?t be anything like that around here this year, way way too wet.

Here, should be down 50bu or more from average. Lot of corn is elbow high, the whole plant, sat in water all summer. Few good looking spots, but many drown out spots, ears are really tipping back no roots to gather nutrients. Southern MN.

I got to see some silage chopped in both Iowa and Illinois last week. Corn that was combine at the Farm Progress Show was 26%. Just about right for high moisture corn silo_Our corn in South Central Ontario, is still very green , not likely to chop corn silage till end of September
You have some nice looking corn David.

I have seen one combine running here in southern indiana. Heard it was 31% moisture. I will wait till mine gets in the mid 20 range.
