On the subject of ideas too far ahead of their time......

...Yamaha Terra Pro. They were introduced in 1987? They eere a atv with a two point hitch and pto from the factory. Talking to people that been around them. The biggest complaints were the small 350cc engine and air cooling. I can't help but wonder if they were too far ahead of their time. In 87 atvs were still considered toys of the rich. My question is this: Given "modern" liquid cooled engines 500-750 even 1000cc do you think this idea would be likely to make a come back? Or is this idea forever condemned to the "What could have been" pages of history?

I don't think it will ever catch on.

Consumers want an ATV to be light, nimble, fast, with long travel suspension. If you've ever worked on an ATV, you'll discover they are built somewhat on the light duty side. The suspension and drive train are just not designed for the endurance needed to double as a tractor.

I suppose it could be done, but it would drive up the cost and decrease the driveability on rough terrain.

craigslist sioux city iowa has a terra pro mower for the Yamaha. it is listed under finish mower. https://siouxfalls.craigslist.org/grd/d/yamaha-terrapro-mower/6644393274.html

Kind of like my John Deere utv they called it a utv
not an at atv it doesn?t cut cookies and it doesn?t
pop wheelies but I pull an 8 foot tandem disc
through my garden with it . Most atv buyers want to
go fast and show off

cant even argue with that last part.

I think the problems of suspension travel and frame durability could be overcome. I also from the stad point of a manufacture woth millions in R&D to play with it would be an easy retro fit. All you would realy need is a longer input shaft on the CVT. Long enough it passes through and has a stub big enough for a electric pto clutch just like a riding mower. Then a mule drive to front or back depending on attachment.

It would be fun to see the Terra Pro brought back or something similar to it. But as SxS are starting to outsell 4wheelers this changes the equation. And most have accepted the idea of a separate engine for each implement.

I pull a New Idea side delivery rake with my ATV and have pulled a hay wagon with 68 square bales on it ( had the
power to pull just not the weight to control or stop it was almost an ugly day doing that). Too cover a few
things my bike is 4wd independent suspension, water cooled and only 500cc and by the way I have had the bike up
too 58 MPH and backed off because I chickened out. I tried to figure out how to put a 3 point hitch on it so I
could plow and disc my garden just could never get it perfected and give up. I just don't know if there is enough
market for ones like the Yamaha but if they could market for deer food plots, clean up around hunting spot and
still go out and joy ride with only one machine it might just catch on.

The John Deere will go 58 top speed that?s not fast compared to anything else my nephews razor will do at least 70 and he chickened out and let off . I?ve hauled 5000 pounds behind my Deere and it is heavy enough to handle it
