sealer for ac hose connection

I am still working on this air conditioner and got it to working and the new hose is leaking at the new expansion valve and it is the old style like a JIC fitting not the newer oring kind of fitting is there some kind of sealer that I can put on the threads and put it back together that the R134 want damage it? I am this close to getting it working, but the high side was getting up to about 500 which is way to high,do you think the expansion valve is bad and not letting enough of pressure get through and building up too much pressure and causing it to leak? Thanks

500 is way too much even for high ambient temps. If it is charged with the correct amount of refrigerant, it should stay in bounds. If the expansion valve is plugged, it will not make any cool. I would put refrigerant oil on the threads, and tighten them well. Jim
link to chart.

Flare fittings seal at the "flare", not at the threads.

As Jim said, 500 psi on the high side is WAY to much, but the fitting shoudn't leak, even at those pressures. Must be some trapped debris, or damage to the mating faces, NO need for glop on the threads to try to correct this.

Have you used a good vacuum pump to evacuate air and moisture form the system before charging?

Do you have an R134 temperature/pressure chart and know how to read it?

Lack of adequate air flow over the condenser..part usually in front of radiator...will cause overly high pressures as well. Don?t know what you are working on but back in the day it usually meant the viscous fan clutch was bad. Or just blocked by debris grass, bugs, dirt etc.

Well I got her fixed put some pag oil on the threads and tightened it real good and it didnt leak and put a bigger fan to the condensor and now it cools good this is on a new holland 912 speedrower. Thanks for the advice
