You can all sleep good tonight knowing, our California governor is putting a ban on the use of plastic straws. California, and my town is doing it's part to save the planet. Our town banned plastic grocery bags, and Styrofoam cups. And my tractor is running better on 4.00 diesel. Way to go Ca. Stan

hell our gov. here in Washington state is blaming nnalert for all the smoke from the fires ,instead of the real reason of ego. Nazi's stopping logging to thin the forest of fuel. I can't even imagine how much timber that will be lost instead of using it as a renewable resource

Nice( they should do it clear across the country along with other non recyclables. I have no children but those of you that do should be glad someone is making an effort.

If they keep it up them people or there in CA are going to ban breathing LOL but open every thing up to the illegal immigrants.

While doing away with plastic stuff maybe sort of good it would be even better to just make every thing plastic biodegradable and then the problem is solved.

Shoot not long ago I heard on the new of some one being put In nail because they used a plastic straw

So, right before the civil war, the southern states wanted secession and the norther states fought a war to bring them back. How many of us normal folks would love California to leave and give them a huge send off?

I heard on a radio interview that the bad thing about straws is that they go through some screen in the sorting equipment. They interviewed the paper straw manufacturer. He was one happy guy. His paper straws cost five times what the paper ones cost. Do you remember Flav-O-Straws? you would suck your plain white milk through them and it would come out strawberry or chocolate.

There's people who want to make Ca into two states. making the south one state, and the north another. Maybe I should move to Pa. That's where my GG Grand father came from. A place called Coles Creek. Don't worry I am too old to move. I don't think most of my vehicles would make the trip. Stan

(quoted from post at 21:58:58 08/23/18) California has the 5th largest economy in the world, it's paying to support a lot of the other states, you better not get your wish!

You right about it being way up there in size of economy but you are mistaken about paying for a lot of other states sir...it has a huge deficit and is teetering on bankruptcy because it doesn't have a printing press like the Feds have.

Yes so let?s ban plastic and use more paper ? Hmm i wonder where paper comes from ? Oh that?s right trees but we can?t cut trees that will cause us to longer be able to breathe

On another note...what does your county do with plastic. Ours use to go to recycle and shipped to China. China quit taking it so it goes to the land fill. I am trying to buy more stuff in glass and metal.

Really? If you add all the money spent by the following states together the total money spent on welfare is less than what CA spends. Those states are WV, NC, SC, GA, KY, TN, AL, MS, MO, AR and LA. You know, those poor rural states that some folks keep claiming as not paying their own way. Also look it up. The folks making that claim originally counted anyone working for the local, state or federal government as being on welfare as well as government and military retirees. They also counted those on SS retirement too.

The largest economies in the world are as of right now are the USA, China, Japan, Germany, Great Britain, France and India. All larger than CA. Been that way for years too. India, 8 months into this year is over CA's total GDP for last year.

Not trying to pick at you. I just fact checked those claims a couple of months ago because something didn't sound right. I got the numbers for monies actually spent on public assistance from the federal government list by state. Little time with a calculator gave me the actual numbers. You have add in FL to get to the same level as what CA spends.

Bad part of it is a conservative writer did a piece that was anti CA and abundant control about 2 years ago. He fudged the numbers bad. The liberals used his numbers against him. So I find it kinda funny.

Actually might not be a bad deal for farmers. You can make paper and cloth out of hemp. Hemp is supposed to make very good paper and cloth.

If you've ever lived next to a convenience store or fast food restaurant you will understand how those containers, wrappers and cups get thrown about and the wind takes them everywhere. Switching to paper for those items was a good move. You can shred them with a lawn mower and they will decompose into the lawn, plastic won't.

He will be around a lot longer then you want to believe and even if he wasn't nnalert would be president and the left has no idea how much more conservative he is then nnalert so be careful what you wish for

It would be ironic if they used recycled roundup boxes to make the straws out of 😂😂😂

What happened to drinking from a glass or straight from the bottle for that matter.
I can't remember ever having bought or used straws, neither has my Wife,..and we raised 4 kids

Can you imagine the anti gmo organic straw
movement ?!?!?!?!? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
😂 soon the straws will cost more than the soda 🥤

???? soon the straws will cost more than the soda ????

Yep, you can sip yer kool-aid as you put more money into GMO crops while prices are garbage! Monsanto and Cargil sure hooked you guys good. Now keep in mind that I ain't saying GMO's or Roundup are evil. I'm just saying they got you guys hooked on that "no weed" corn bean rotation. LOL Monsanto sold out what, last year? or was that the year before? They made their money.....With inputs for GMO crops just how much did you make on corn last year? And you put in what this year? Yep yuk it up!

Like I said I'm not looking at this from pro or anti GMO stance. I'm looking at this as business.

Even the Dept of Wildlife here in VA has come out for logging and clear cutting in the Jefferson and Geo Washington National forests.A clear cut here will be an overgrown mass of young trees and other vegetation in a short time to provide all sorts of wildlife food and cover, plus the growing vegetation will use up far more CO2 than the trees did.Its really stupid all the timber that is being wasted in
National Forests and National Parks.

(quoted from post at 05:27:07 08/24/18) So how soon will plastic straws become collectible?
ust to dust. Vegetation+ dinosaurs = oil. Oil makes plastics, so why shouldn't plastic go back to where it came from via landfill?

About the only thing you really need a straw for is a milk shake- and as I recall, the paper ones didn't work too well on the thick ones- flattened out pretty much immediately.

I just hope emigrants to Texas from California leave the problems behind them when they come.....don't bring them with you. Otherwise they'll will be leaving Texas for someplace else for the same reason they left California and will be leaving a helluva mess for those of us (natives) who live in and love Texas the way it is. Wink!

I would love to drown every wacko who thinks that recycling matters. For most items it takes more resources to gather and recycle them than it does to produce virgin goods. I love how Waste Connections runs 50 or so huge diesel trucks in our city to pick up a handful of plastic and cardboard, most of which ends up being trucked by other diesel semis to Oklahoma for burial anyway because folks don't care what they throw in the special bin.

Where did you find that Cal. is the 5th largest economy in the World? The search I did, they were not in the top 10. Show me different....

As of right now, they have a 6 billion surplus...

I just did a Google search and this came up. Don't know how accurate it is, but this may be where the poster got the info from...

California now world's fifth-largest economy, bigger than Britain. California is now the world's fifth-largest economy, according to data released Friday morning by the U.S. Department of Commerce. Its 2017 Gross State Product was $2.747 trillion, surpassing the United Kingdom's $2.625 trillion Gross Domestic Product.May 4, 2018

Your prop 65 nonsense is to kick in September. Every package our company ships to CA has to have a warning sticker on it and in every box in it. I don't know what the fines are if we forget to put a sticker on them ? Just one more thing we have to try and remember to do.
We should just ban shipping anything into there !
