Tractor Heaven Lots of pics

Two brothers own this place a few towns over from me. They let me walk around and take pics. Words fail me, so I’ll just shut up now.

Ok, one more thing: It’s always a pleasure for me to see folks living life on their own terms, willing to share their joy with others. That came through when I talked with these two men.

Pretty tidy around all of the treasures. Looks like they do have some "in progress" projects. Quite the collection. gobble

Can you tell us where this is? Is some or all for sale? Quite a unique collection.

What make and model is the 4th picture from the end - the big yellow unit with the smooth steel wheels? Never seen that before. Can pretty well roughly identify all the others.

I have been to places like this, and know the people who own them. They are very comfortable to just set on their treasures
regardless of prevailing markets. I've seen tractors and equipment rust into the ground and have the owners reject a more than
adequate offer only years later to see scrap prices presented to them.

I've been watching an LA Case melt into the ground and having the radiator stolen out of it. Makes me sick to see this happen
and knowing that their heirs will only see scrap iron values for it.

That is a road roller for use in paving with blacktop, Gallion was one name, not sure if that is what it is or not.

I think I see a Huber tractor there (parked beside a Cat crawler). And am wondering about the tractor with the interesting
stylized hinged & louvered side covers, that one I don't recognize. Quite a collection. People shouldn't get upset if they
rust away and settle into the ground, it's really none of anyones business if they want to let that happen and not sell them.
All those molecules came from mother earth in the first place anyways. Plus, remember that a lot of "buyers" are actually
just "flippers" and are looking at making a fast buck.

Wow,how many tractors a year do you have to buy to amass a collection like that in one lifetime?

Wow! Have looked these over at least 6 times now. Sure are a lot more pics I'd like to see. But dang, I think you just put my daily Rust Pic thread out of business! *lol*

Does anyone recognize what this one is?

Randy that is quite a collection. I have a friend in Georgia that has probably well over 200 tractors in his collection and that's doesn't include the 100 or so trucks, cars old engines, fire trucks, locomotives, and steam engines and almost all of them are in metal buildings or under cover. Myself and a good friend of mine used to go to his place on the weekends and see how many we could pull out and get running. Over half have been restored and the rest are still in there work clothes. It always amazed me that one man could find the time to buy up that much stuff and no not one piece of it is for sale. I always tell him that when he's gone it's going to take a week to auction all his stuff off.

Cletrac, the hood is the clue. There's some nice models of pre D series Caterpillar there. Surprised there is not a Monarch crawler hidden in there, unless its the one I think is a Cletrac.

Buffalo Springfield was another name in rollers.
I took a Hercules JXLD engine out of one once and used it in a truck I had.
Remember the band by that name?
RedMF40,
Thanks for posting the photos.
It was a treat.

The Huber is in pic #13, I think I might be correct. It has something draped over the engine as a hood. The one with the sidecover description mentioned looks like a Minnie sidecover but it appears to be green ..... and the front wheels look to be cast iron.

I still have a Cat 22 over in the field that Josh bought back in 1981,he asks about it every time I see him.(LOL) Too bad Big Kirby still isn't around with all the IH tractors and equipment
could have turned it into quite a tour.

Thank you Billy!

Very cool collection. Thanks for posting
pictures. There are some there I would like
to own. I knew a guy had about 300
tractors, I never got to his place before
he passed.

Glad everyone liked the pics. No, I can’t share their location or who they are—even though it looks like at least one member here already knows. And I don’t want any of their stuff—not even one wheel weight. I have a good Massey that runs great and a 9N with stuck motor. That’s enough eye candy for me. They let me walk through their outdoor rust museum and play with their rescue cat—and that’s enough.

My feeling is that if someone pulled up with a suitcase full of $2M in cash and offered for everything there and they can keep the house and land—they’d likely decline. Maybe not the best financial decision, but the money wouldn’t buy them the lifestyle they know or the things they enjoy doing. I may be wrong about that—but it appears many of those machines have not moved in a very long time. However, many of them are in good running condition. My point is that if they wanted to sell—a lot of those things would be long gone by now. Me—I’d start with the Gravelys—all of them. They are space hogs and not fun to look at.

In the interest of saving time, I just posted all the pics at once. But I know this is like sitting down with a 2 lb box of candy and eating it all in twenty minutes. Maybe a bit much, but then again they convey how overwhelming it was to go through there and see that immense collection.

AND…..don’t stop posting rust pics KCM! It is one of the things I look for when I log onto the forum. I really enjoy them, don’t stop!

17 down looks to me like a Massey Harris Challenger. All the days I have never seen a real tractor but do have the model tractor. I would think it might be as valuable as about any in the photos. Odd front end on the MM for some reason and several good looking old dozers.

CH see my comment above < I THINK it is a Massey Harris they called a challenger and they were green at that time. Just my best bet.

RedMF40,
Aww, I think I just fell in love with that
place. :)

Too much cool stuff to even decide what I
like the best.

Thanks for the great pics!!

There's a show on youtube called Barn Find Hunters. The guy travels around the country looking in old salvage yards for car relics. He walks through and talks about different
ones. Pretty knowledgeable and not your run of the mill reality show. Maybe you need to start up a youtube channel and do the same.LOL

They had a pretty good start on things back in the 1970's when I first met them.Back then the old tractors were real cheap,I used to have people give me tractors just to get them out of
the way.

Just the Caterpillars alone are intriguing, most are just after the Best/Holt merger into the Caterpillar Tractor Company, some into the early 30's and not even "RD" series in the mix. The IH & AC crawler are also just as interesting and that one McCormick crawler looked to be in really nice shape when it was found, still is now. Have to wonder how many of these were just sitting idle from obsolescence and ended up here and not the scrap yard. That is one really cool collection, would have loved to taken the same walk that it took to take all the photos.

They have saved a lot of machinery from the scrap yard for sure, there was an auction just down the road from them back in the 1980's that had a huge amount of machinery, vehicles and
tractors that had sat for years.

SweetFeet, I am partial to the old wrecker even though it's not a tractor ;-)

Anyone know what it might be? Old GMC?

(quoted from post at 11:31:47 08/21/18) Yes GMC or Chevy 5 window. 1952 to early 1955 by the door handle

'52 and newer had push button door handles. This one has the turn down type. Also, no vent pane window. '47 - '50.

Thanks, both of you. Don't see too many of that style around in big trucks these days. From the looks of the body rear of the cab, might have outfitted them as fire-trucks, too.

Thanks, meant to reply earlier but got sidetracked. It's a good idea this kind of show. I do have a youtube channel but am working on getting the content a little more consistent. May put in some of this kind of material--exploring old salvage yards and abandoned farms and so on. I'll check out the Barn Find Hunters, thanks for the suggestion ;-)
