I have one that I use behind and JD 4455 when I want to plow in electric wires under ground. I also have the dead mans for it to drain wet spots. I have brought the tractor to dead stop and not broke it. I also have sheared bolts too. So if your thinking of one for your JD 4020 you will never hurt it.
 
Max depth with the bigger shank is 22 inches ! They say max depth on a 915 v ripper Is 24 I think but I have had a 9 shank dragging dirt with the frame before
