Soil type, hills, number of acres to cover will affect your answer. Back in their prime, many pulled four bottoms after being weighted to the max. Today, pulling three high speed bottoms will likely get more done per hour with better fuel efficiency than spinning and lugging to pull the biggest plow possible.
 
If you have flat ground with light soil you would be ok, but I agree, the tractor will be happier with three.
I knew a guy back in the day that had one with MFWD and a loader. He used to pull 5 bottoms with chains on all four and a bucket full of stone - that was tractor abuse...

I pulled 4 x 16 semi mount with a 1655 over a lot of acres. Yes soil type is the biggest factor. Also I maxed at 5" deep
