OT Freihgtliner FL-60

I ran my freightliner with a cat 3126 this morning for a few minutes everything was fine. This afternoon it wont start. I changed fuel filters hoping for the best, no luck. I know next to nothing about cat engines. Does this engine have something similar to a cam position sensor? Any ideas on what to try next? Thanks for your assistance

Check the electric fuel shut off solenoid. Could have quit working or a bad or loose wire on it. That would be my guess.

the 3126 is the computer operated engine, if it was running then you shut it off, then no start , I do not think it was fuel filters < I would check in battery box to see if there is a fuse, that has blown, make sure you are getting power to the computer

I will second checking to see if the ECM has its own power supply. My Cummins powered semis do. Every now and then you will have a blown fuse.

If it is not starting your going to need someone with a heavy truck scan tool/program. They can check to see if the issue is electronic.

I had an ECM fail that way this spring. Cost just under $2k to get a new one flashed and installed.

I belive the 3126 has a primmer pump on it, did you fill the filters before installing them ? and then pump the primer till it is hard? if so then like has been said look for fuse blown

I am going to try and explain this the best I can, it could be a number of things, 1rst, could be a weak Huei pump, 2nd, could be bad orings on injectors, 3rd, no power to ECM, which has been said, Now if I were you , I would try giving it a shot of either to see if it fires up and if it does that is a sign of bad orings on injectors , if it dies, like I said could be a number of things, I have seen gears shear off the Huei pump, I have had customers tell me no start, give it shot of either , and wala it runs, Bad orings like I said, The 31 series engines are hard to start after running out of fuel or filer change, some have primer pumps some don't, to get air out of system you need to remove fuel cap and have someone pressurize tank with an air hose while someone else tries to start truck, if all fails like JD Seller sys get someone with a laptop with correct program to run a scan,, Good Luck

Does your tach read speed while cranking?If not,you may have a bad speed timing sensor,or no power to the ECM.

Hello avant,

Look in the battery box. I have seen fuse harness installed there for the fuel or the ecm.? If they are blown or the harness is disconnected, it will crank but it won't start,

If an ECM fuse is blown,there will no check engine light.So to check this,turn the key on-do not crank.See if the check engine light comes on.If not not,look for a blown ECM fuse. I do not remember where the ECM fuses are located ;if they are not in the battery box,look on the battery feed to the ECM .I worked on more c-7s than 3126s,but I think the fuel regulator on the back of the head can cause a no start,but not sure anymore. As others have said,get scan tool,before you throw parts at it.Mark.
