Getting flipped off question

As a truck driver it's not as uncommon as I would like to be given the single digit SAloot. My question is this, if in their enthusiasm the flippER gets their hand too close to the roof of their vehicle so that due to my line of sight I can't see the offending digit, only the fist or parts lower, am I still legally flipped off? Or is that considered as a "more power to ya" fist pump? I'm sitting here waiting on a trailer repair and the repairman and I have been debating it and can't really decide. I know the knowledgeable folks here will deffinately have the answer.

Wish I had done so today. Had two semi's on I80 running side by side for mile or more at less than the limit. Then the one passing sped up to over the speed limit once I passed him and he passed me. They gotta get their jollies sometimes I guess.

Most drivers are very considerate and I give them the edge or out quite often.

I seem to remember an old Dennis The Menace type cartoon saying,Honest Dad,I was just giving the officer the peace sign and one finger got stuck.I kind of got used to the finger while driving truck, just seeing a truck seems to irritate some people. My old boss used to give those people a big smile and a thumbs up.I'm number one, thanks for noticing.

While i was still on the road this was and every day thing hauling big wide heavy and high stuff . Like taking up the whole tunnel because this is what that little piece of papaer said to do or having to move over real fast due to the lack of frontal vision due to that IDIOT freight box driver that just had to force his way around you then cut inft of you leaving you BLIND as to what is coming up ahead then the same driver getting ticked off when you go around him on the hills because you out power him . Then yaa have the four wheelers that are mad because your hogging the road or your escort shuts down a bridge so you can HOG the whole bridge to fit thru with a couple inches to spare . My favort one was the wide move up the P a. pike . The only way to move this Military load out of Ft. Dix was across the pike . I got on on the Jersey side and meet a Pa. state bear just across the line , we had our driver bear meeting and paper work checked layed out the game plan and i asked him NOW HOW FAST do you want to run , his come back was well just how fast will your truck run with the load . Told him that there was no problem with pony power and at most i would only have to split one gear for any hills so from 98 MPH on down so you pick the speed . He said well since we will be usen BOTh lanes try and keep it around 75 we don't want to hold up the traffic flow tomuch . So off we went with him behind me with the disco lights going he and i used CB channel 4 to talk . His first comment was Wow sure did not take you long to get up to speed . Things were going well till we got past Breezewood when some idiot freight hauler kept tryen to pass us , Here we are running 75 and with a Pa. bear on my donkey he is tryen to pass . As we were coming up the big hioll with the sharp curves leading into the tunnel i was allowing stuff to pass and i was still holding 70 due to the curves . And here comes the freight box just as i started to move over to go into the tunnel i had to come down on the brakes so he could squeeze into the tunnel . Mr. bear was HOT plus we had construction on the other side of the hole . He told me that is there was a wide spot to get over to let him around as he wanted to talk to that boy big time . He told me that i was to pull over at the wide spot about five miles on up as the next bear would take over for the last leg of the trip . So as soon as i cleared the tunnel there was room to move over just long enough to let him by and he was GONE . Just outside the construction zone Mr. Bear had that guy pulled over and i went on by to the wide spot and pulled off till the next one arrived . when he got there we had our POW WOW and off we went once again at a high rate of speed . about thirty miles up the road here comes this IDIOT freight box once again and he is almost on the bears bumper i could hear him on the CB a little so i went on up to 19 to get the full affect of what he had to say then went back down to Ch 4 and told the bear to go up to 19 and listen . Mr. bear was not impressed at all and asked me if i could get along with out him as he was going to have a long talk with this driver and he would have someone else run my back door just as soon as he could but for me to keep going and doing what i have been doing . Later on the next bear that took me the rest of the way to my destination once we got parked for the night the third bear told me that that freight box driver was now a guest of Pa and has been issued numerous violations totaling well over 4 grand .

I figure it this way. It is a kindness for people to let others know that today I am a upset intolerant idiot and I need you to stay away from me.
I don't get nearly as upset with the salute from them now as I used to get.

I would say you are not flipped off unless you see the whole straight finger, the driver may just be wiping off a bugger on the roof of his car. If a flip off is intended the driver does have the satisfaction of flipping you off big time though, in his mind. Stan

You are alright, Chief, I don't care what those other guys say!!! :D

They're notorious for that on I-81 northbound in Central Pa. It's miles of going up mountains, and one will try to pass and doesn't quite have the smoke to pull it off.

Was running down busy Interstate two abreast in cars, 18 wheeler coming onto Interstate from on ramp and was suppose to yield, but hell no way was that guy going to do that. Had to apply heavy brakes or else. Hard to respect these guys. One bad a$$ makes it bad for all.

I'm no goody two shoes but what's up with all the road rage these days? We have more time saving devices than ever before and are in a bigger hurry and God forbid you get in my way or cost me some time. Another thing, I hadn't been in a semi in years but recently road with a buddy and let me tell you the CB talk was nasty compared to years ago. Are we losing all decorum and decency these days?

Amen to that!I used to spend lots of time on my base station and would often give assistance (ie; information) to truckers. Finally got to where I took the antenna down and boxed the base away.

Now, I don't drive over the limit, so don't feel any need to have a cb anymore. Don't really go to unfamiliar areas either. I much preferred the older days, when people (in general) had better manners. ....I was at a 4-way stop sign in town not too long ago. We weren't in a hurry, so thought I'd let the guy to my right (who air-braked it to the stop sign) go ahead of me. I kept waving my hand, but he just sat there on his phone. When he finally looked up to see me waving him on, he actually got upset! Guess he was waiting for our truck to pass before he stomped on the gas.

As for Jon, here's the way I see it -- if the 'gesture' isn't in full view, then take it as "[i:a0c1b3dddb]you[/i:a0c1b3dddb]" interpret it. Otherwise you have to assume your making an assumption of what's there.

Losing all decorum....ABSOLUTELY. Sadly it starts at the top. If you talked to people that way in church, a school meeting or a town board meeting you would be escorted ...OUT. But in a national debate...it is ok. call others belittling names.....so on a Cb it must be acceptable behavior. But, Not in my opinion. We have turned into a nation of pigs.

Being a moron has nothing to do with what you drive, some people really work at it.

Reminds me of the time some young sweet thing looked at me and said. "FU. . ."
I took a second and while looking at her said, "Nah, your too ugly. Stupid too!"
She proceeded to get all huffed up and had nothing to say after that. She just walked off in a big huff. I am willing to bet that she never said that again, at least to a guy.
Poor girl. I never did see here again after that. I wonder why.

Cuby, I could be wrong, but your statement makes it look like you are one of those who owns the road and wants to make sure that no-one ever causes you to lift your foot from the accelerator pedal. I bet that if I had been with you I would have seen that you really had plenty of time to back off just a tiny bit and let the guy in. Instead you kept the pedal right down and tried to make the guy feel guilty by coming up close on his tail and then slamming the brakes on. I see it every day.

I'm on the other side of that argument. People seem to have forgotten how to use a four way stop. If the other vehicle stops before me I let them go first. If I stop first, I go first. When everyone sits at the intersection trying to be nice it gums up the works. Traffic flows much more smoothly when each takes their turn.

Andy, there was nothing to "gum up". Town was dead that day - we're talking a slow day in Mayberry RFD! Was only the two trucks. He was in a hurry and we weren't. If he had been paying attention to his surroundings, he would have seen me wave him on immediately. Instead, he sticks his nose into his smart phone before coming to a stop...not paying attention to anyone or anything around him.

Traffic is usually too busy to be courteous like this anymore, and this small town has had a sudden influx of big-city people within the past couple years. It used to be a polite area where folks would say 'Hi' to each other, help out, be courteous, etc. Now, the vast majority of the time, the town is simply rude. The only people you dare speak to anymore are folks you already know

Years back I was making a trip down to Florida. An eighteen wheeler empty flat bed got in the left lane and was running at least ten under, as was the rig on the right, a rolling road block. They held every one up for over fifty miles. At one point, a long climb, the road opened to three lanes and we managed to sneak by even though the trucker straddled the white line. After passing, I lowered my window and offered the single digit salute. Found out his rig could do over 60! Over 70, over 80, over 90. He got on my tail so close I could see nothing but grill out the center mirror several times. Thanks to his road blocking, the freeway was clear for miles, so nothing to avoid. When we got to the next city, traffic entering forced me to the left lane, with him tight behind. the Second ramp was my exit, and I took it from the left lane. It was on a rise, and as I got to the top of the ramp, I could see the other side of the rise, probably a dozen police cars. There was one at the top of the ramp also. He flagged me, asked if I was OK, then sent me on my way.
That is one of the few times I ever felt the need to display anger.
