Empire Farm Days?

Dry but they got a downpour around 12:30. Should be pretty good tomorrow as it has been pretty dry but showers and T-storms are in the forecast. A little disappointed in the show this year but understand everybody is tightening their belt. No pork BBQ this year.

yeah, I was standing in line outside at the beef bbq tent when the rain cut loose. I was soaked when I got under the tent. I thought the ground was quite passable after the rain. crowd was thin.

Warning!! I recommend bringing food and drink with you. There are none of the local organizations doing food. Some commercial vendor selling smoked something and maybe some kind of taters was the only small scale food and looked kinda pricey. The Beef is there and a commercial vendor peddling charcoal burnt chicken, which did not get good review by my friends at our exhibit. Definitely light on the quantity of salt potatoes. Really, I don't think is is possible to buy a coffee and donut anywhere on the grounds. Not a good situation.
Looks like more rain for today. Might get muddy, ground took most of Tue rain. Lot of space with nothing on it. Getting too expensive maybe.

You've got 4H and yes the number of vendors is down but nearly all are not doing stand alone tents but working in booths in the main tents. I was stubborn yesterday other than patronizing 4H and did not get anything elsewhere. Gonna live it up at the Steam Pageant this Saturday.

Truth be told most are discouraged by what is going on in agriculture at present especially in the dairy business. Years ago a ATV was something that could be had for a few thousand bucks new but now the better ones are 10K plus. I browsed a little Kubota TLB and the tag was 21K. While some have money to buy that I would think that most would be awfully discouraged to look at that price. Teitsworth's lot lacked the depth of tractors and other goodies that it normally has. It has a lot odds and ends.

Well, seems like NYS is doing everything it can to kill off agriculture in the state. It's pretty tough sledding everywhere near as I can tell.

The state is not helping but a lot of problems exist without the state interfering. The dairy industry is its own worst enemy by adding cows when the least bit of positive
news comes about and now a larger portion of the population does not consume milk. The canning factories declined because they wanted more consistent quality and
production. Grain crops have always been inconsistent and the thing NY does best which is wheat is tougher to market currently. Most soils here cannot produce corn
consistently on a profitable basis. NYS is a great place to live but is tough sledding in a lot of ways compared to quite a few other states.
