Need some info a friend has a 2n tractor and has a chance to buy a new Holland hayliner 276. I think it's too much baler for that small of a tractor any other thoughts?

He could probably use it as long as the land is flat, like really flat, and his winrows kept small.

I didn't see 2n. Probably poorest baling tractor. To fast in 1st. Pto turns to fast wide open. Slowed down no power.

Very small. I don't think it'd be wise. A NH 269 is a much smaller baler, I use it behind my Case SC for small weird areas, and it's all it can handle. Does a 2N have live power? That would a must I would think. There are plenty of small NHs around and I'd spend time finding one.

I don't think a 2N is a good fit. You really need 45 hp to make real progress. 2 strikes are high 1st gear ground speed, and low HP. Jim

I baled once with an 8N pulling a 336JD.'The tail wagging the dog',but it worked, got the job done. But you really have to know what you are doing.

It would be possible if you hAd to get some baling done, but it would not be a good match to own and use regularly.

An older smaller NH baler would be plenty of load, with the transmission pto and not much power, even that is a bit of work with a 2N.

Without live power, he would have to be quick to throw it out of gear when he gets into heavy going, which will be often with the high ground speed of first gear on the N's. There may be a worse tractor to bale with, but I'm not coming up with it offhand. The shear pin sellers will be happy with his choice.

Engine powered baler only with a 2N Ford. I know because I have the 2N Dad bought new in May of 44 And we pulled an engine powered New Holland 66 with it. And Ford did not come out untill 55 with a live PTO as an option only on a 5 speed tractor.

My thanks to all the opinions. My buddy is going to keep looking. I have an 8n that I pull an old ih with and I think that's pushing the limits but I only do about 300 squares a year with it the rest I round bale with a case 1370
