Hi we aren't sure of year model but we can't operate the hydraulics without the pot being engaged can someone enlighten me please

A Fordson Super Major would have live PTO and hydraulics. So like Delta Red posted shot us a picture. I would suspect you have a different model of tractor.

Super Major's came with either Live or Transmission PTO and both needed the PTO engaged to
work the hydraulics. The hydraulic pump is driven from a gear on the rear of the PTO shaft
as it has been in the whole Major range from 1952 to 1964.

Some models had an extra fitted, a raised PTO, which allowed the rear shaft to be taken out
of gear with a separate lever.
