Noticed the shifter cam had a slight groove on it looked at some images online just to compare and they looked about the same for wear, what is consider normal wear on these cams and how much is too much, one guy told me if the hole has been worn into on the edge that its worn

They do tend to get a grove. I would throw the pointers away and replace them with a ball and retainer. They can be found in the latter 4230 parts book. You might need different springs. My dealer has several in a box and you use what you want and return the rest. The balls center them selves much better than the pointers. Make sure to take all the end play out of the shafts. Tom

So i could get by with just changing the pawls to metal balls would that help with the wear

So that that groove is normal wear?

Kind of worried about that groove
The ball and spring would help with that groove wear correct

And how much is too much wear looks like on the hole is being flatten down on one side where the pin runs threw the hole

Switch it to ball type detents and you should be good. You do need to change the springs also as they are stronger springs for the ball type.

Also would like to know if any one can tell how much wear is too much wear on the shifter forks buddy of mine gave me a set and they show to have a shinny surface too them but knowing that they were used I can image them getting worn but on on shifter its got a minor groove and when I say minor its smaller than a ticks butt can any one give me a measurement or a way to check the true thickness of a new one vs an old one
Apologize for the multiple replies Im trying to learn about this stuff and have very Little help
