Disc mower parts

My 935 JD MoCo really doesn?t owe me anything. Howerever, the $14,000 Deere wants to fix it might make it forever indebted to me! I?m not sure of the chain of events but the common oil sump is full of gear teeth (mind you this is all over the phone information). They are saying that the bearing went on the first turtle, took out the gear, and others followed. I?m finding it hard to believe as the turtle U joints they put in that have less than 100 acres on them as well as the gearbox mount welding they did 100 acres ago let loose. The welds broke on the welds and not beside the welds, which kind of leads me to believe they were weak, broke, dropped the U joint out of alignment and took out the bearing. All in quick succession starting one of the hay fields on fire. It was a rockstar week last week.

Where can I get aftermarket MoCo parts? The way it was described over the phone it needs botttom bearings and the bottom gear for each unit. I guess they aren?t all bad, but while I?m in there cleaning up the sump...

I tried Shoup but they only have blades for it.

That mower was built by a different co, you could try through that other manufacturer. I forget who builds what any more....

Probably won't be cheap either, might be a little less.

If it's welded up, and you suspect the welding failed, might be time to get out from the machine, will it hold up with newvoarts again? Could be a money pit.

Bearings are usually generic, unless it's a very special application they should be available from a good bearing supplier, the gears, probably not.

Don't know how much hay you do but another option would be to "retire" that one and use the money on one of the newer units. There are lots of them out there. My deere 1350 moco has been a good unit but thinking of trading in on either a deere 630 or one of the Krone moco's.That 1350 is a 30 year old unit now!Think yours is about the same vintage.

If that machine has the Kuhn cutter bar I can steer you in the right place. I have rebuilt a few in the JD 1360/1460 family at a fraction of the cost. I have all the bearing numbers Written down and where you source them. Al

IMHO - JD and Krone are very good disc mower conditioners. I have a Krone, would have bought a Deere had a deal been out there. Mine has 2 pt hitch w/swivel gear head for some tight turns without PTO/ U-joint chatter. I also have impellers. Dry down (all grass hay) this year has been excellent.

If they're wanting $14 grand to fix it, time to move on to another machine. They can be had for a lot less than that.
