Our youngest son ,soon to be 13 ,has been bugging us to get him a tractor. He loves the riding mower size. What do y'all think about this one? He wants something to take to tractor shows. Our 15 year old has a 1950 cub.

When I was a kid, went to an auction with my dad and came home with a JD H with a 2 row cultivator. I wish it hadn't. It was inside the barn when the barn burnt. I think my brother at the time put wet hay in haymow.

I have a Farmall C that my mother owned. She has passed, but her Farmall lives on. Use it all the time to mow yard. I would like to pass it on to my kids, but they like city life.

So look for a tractor a relative once owned. Your boy may appreciate knowing his grandpa once owned the tractor.

looks pretty good for the age of it. I think those era Allis were built by Simplicity, so there may be other attachments around for it. just having the plows and cultivator with it make it a pretty good deal. a little polishing compound and it should really shine.

None of the grandparents ever farmed or owned a tractor. My dad worked on several farms in highschool and college. Sorta odd that my wife and I got bit by the tractor bug?!?!

Looks good. But how about another Cub? AC 'G',or 'B'.JD 'L/LA'(about the same hp and age of a Cub).......Whatever he gets,it will be great! Encourage those kids!!!

Those are great little tractors and they are pretty good collector items these days too especially the AC models. There are a lot of equipment available for those also still around.I have lots of equipment to fit the Simplicity and AC garden tractors.Hit me with an email there is a website devoted to them and I don't think I'm able to type it in here.

I know where a nice AC B is for sale. $ 500. It's got hand crank. No starter or battery. I'm guessing it's an older one . But our son loves the garden tractors.

I like it but, he will soon out grow that one. How about an Avery or the Moline equivalent or Massey Harris Pony. An AC G model would be good, but they are pretty pricey.

No one ever "outgrew" a Cub, maybe they got other bigger tractors but most folks who have had Cub's hold onto one regardless whatever else they have.

After having a cub and using one belonging to a farmer neighbor, they are handy but underpowered for many jobs. As much gardening as y'all do, a Super A is my suggestion. I do not know what your budget is, but they certainly are handy.

I would think a Cub Lo Boy with a belly mower would be ideal considering the grass cutting part of ya'lls business. I have seen a couple on CL recently for not much more money.

There are still a whole lot of those small AC and Simplicity garden tractors still being used and no mower leaves a nicer looking lawn.Page County VA is full of them.Think I have about 10 decks to fit them over in a barn.

"An AC G model would be good, but they are pretty pricey."

That may be the understatement of the decade.
They're outrageously priced around here.
I could buy a JD 3020 Diesel for about the same money.

I say the same about my mom's Farmall C that I put a 72 inch woods belly mower. Does a great job mowing and pulling a 10k dump trailer. I don't think the is an antique tractor with a more comfortable ride.

If that is what he wants then go with it. And if later he wants something bigger you will still have a usefull item. Just don't push something he does not want onto him as that might turn him away from tractors completely.

That is why I like Farmall better than my Jubilee that has a 72 woods on the back. Jubilee ride is ruffer and more crap flying from mower. When the wind is blowing I adjust how I mow so wind blows the dust and mold away from me.
