Working on a buddy?s Farmall 350 it ran good one evening when he drove it then the next day when he started it it ran really bad tried adjusting the carburetor but it didn?t do anything then I told him to shut it of then try and start it again and now it won?t even fire. So I cleaned the carburetor it looked alright but it was rusty but I put it back on and still wouldn?t do anything. I am going to soak it and I might rebuild it for him to see if that changes anything. The plugs are dry looks to be getting good spark but it won?t even fire when I put gas or starting fluid in the cylinders. Any ideas on what?s going on.

Verify static timing to make sure it didn't damage a timing gear and skip time. Good spark does nothing if not at the right time.

Did you check for spark AT the plugs?

Should be able to jump 1/4" from each plug wire to ground when cranking.

If good spark, disconnect the coil wire from the distributor and ground it.

Remove the air cleaner pipe from the carb, open the throttle, hold your hand tightly over the carb air horn and have an assistant crank the engine through.

You should feel a strong, steady vacuum against your hand, and have gas on your hand when done.

If weak, or no vacuum, there is a major vacuum leak, or a valve or valve timing problem.

If good vacuum and no gas, there is no fuel in the bowl or the main circuit is clogged.
