OT - Minneapolis Moline Jeep

I wanted to share this MM Jeep picture. It was in our local parade on Tuesday evening. I did know that MM made them. Has anyone ever seen or been in one? I know the guy sitting in the passenger seat was in the DDay invasion. Sooryabout the Oliver in the pic. Lol

While both Willys and American Bantam claimed to have invented the Jeep, the truth of the matter is that Minneapolis Moline was the first company to offer the military such a machine for trials. MM invented the concept and presented machines for testing. When the big war broke out, the military called for companies to present machines for possible selection and a contract. Willys got the contract.

There was a lawsuit over the rights to the name "Jeep", which MM won. But Willys continued to use the name and over time, became known for "Jeeps".
 
Interesting vehicle and like most vehicles that never quite made it, a lot of unsubstantiated claims as to what really happened. A lot of the events below might have happened as claimed, and then maybe not. One thing I would add is that it hardly appears to be a small, light and nimble vehicle that the design accepted by the military ended up with and what worked so well during war time. Looks like the MM version might have had some good points but overall, it might have been like an offensive lineman playing in a soccer game.
 
I have never seen one. looks linke a good off road vehicle. My Dad had a Burma jeep a little bigger then the MM, but not many around anymore. He cut it up when I was in the Navy. Stan
 
A guy down the road from me, a serious MM collector, has one and has put it in several local parades.
