Deere chewing on cabbage

Any ideas on how to deter the deer? Usually the recommendation is bar soap hanging on tree branches but no trees close to the cabbage. Maybe soap on a stake of two?

When I read the title I thought it was a joke, and my immediate thought was you need to change brands! Maybe a red machine won't be chewing on your produce!

How about throw away foil pie pans hanging on a string on a stake?

I have been buying a product called Liquid Fence at TSC and it works great. I wouldn't have any garden if it weren't for that product. Our area is crawling with deer and everyday I see tracks through the garden but nothing is eaten. Its basically rotten eggs in an emulsion. If its a plant I want to eat like lettuce I just spray it on the ground around the plants.

Liquid fence from TSC, it works well. While it says to coat the plant, it seems that just dousing the area, nearby tree trunks, low branches, the grass etc. deters them from coming into the area. Plants with no fruit on them yet, young sweet corn, I coat the plants, as well as the surrounding area. I just try not to coat anything I would mistakenly eat without taking inside to wash :) ! When applied regularly, it will pattern them away from the area, but do not trust that for too long, they will certainly be back and or testing the area, more so when it gets hot and dry, they want the well kept plants we have in our gardens. For anything in the open, it works well, just remember to re-apply after a rain. Once patterned away, you may have a buffer to re-apply if you forget, but they will be back and it's best to re-apply on time.

Run you a strand of electric fence wire around your garden, one strand will do, then take some aluminum foil strips and wrap around the hot wire, then smear peanut butter on the aluminum foil strips and plug in your fence charger, one lick of the peanut butter and each deer that try?s it won?t forget.....

The wife uses "blood meal" on her flowering plants, has also used "shotgun"( a spray on repellent" ,and several other sprays. She spends several $$ on deer repellent every year.
She has a large collection of Hosta and lillies , deer think it is an all you can eat buffet.

I use sevin dust on my plants to keep things from eating my garden . I also have a guard on duty

I have tried the same that gray rider suggested. I plowed the garden good and planted it. Then I ran my one strand and put the peanut butter on it. For several days I could see the fresh tracks in the dirt and teeth prints in the peanut butter. They wanted it but couldn't hold on long enough to eat it. That kept them out until the peas and sweet potatoes were about ready and then tore it down. Worked good for most of the summer. Tommy

Twenty years ago, momma and I visited relatives down east in the maritimes. Cabbage crops there are vulnerable to deer gobbling them up. Some local farmers plant a crop of buckwheat around the perimeter of the cabbage fields. Apparently (so I was told) the deer love the buckwheat more than the cabbages. I have no idea if this works, just passing along what I was told.

Get a shaker bottle like Parmesan cheese comes in. partially fill with blood meal (sold as rose food in garden stores).
Sprinkle liberally on plants you want to protect. Reapply when it washes off, like after a rain.
