I?m sorry but don?t understand what is awesome about something that will never again be of use,
home to rats and mice, and is an environmental eyesore???? I?m not trying to be a smart___.

It is awesome because it exudes the toughness of bygone era. When machines were tough and men were tougher, like Jay Leno likes to say, "When ships were wood, and men were steel." This is much less of an eyesore than pavement and concrete. I would rather have this truck next door to me, slowly being reclaimed by nature, than another god awful strip mall with a Walmart connected.

It's posted as a "rust" pic. When I post the daily pics, I try to find pics that are more than "just a snapshot of rusting metal", but have character, or a story, or just look cool to someone. To whom? Dunno -- whoever likes it, I guess.

Thinking realistically rather than artistically, I agree. It's a sad photo of a miserable old truck. I'd much rather see the machine in good working order.

I took this picture yesterday in a small active blue stone quarry not too far from Bainbridge, NY.

I think it is example of a once great machine who's owner apparently felt had outlived it's usefulness.
On the other hand, there is probably someone out there who would welcome the challenge of "gettin' it goin' again" just like those that restore seemingly unrestorable rusty old tractors.

what your missing here huskerlyn is the story, did this old rock truck spend it's entire life at that quarry? who made it? why was it parked? did it overheat and crack the head on the engine? (heads missing) or did something else fail? and they where using it as a parts machine for others they had? if you enjoy working on old iron you have a connection to them, if your my age (69) you where out working when this machine was hauling rock, if you have operated equipment most of your life you have that connection like most members here, if you haven't it's hard to explain.

I?ve operated what I believe are great machines
(Farmalls, IH?s, JD, Steiger). But just ?big? rust
sitting taking up space??? I?ve had enough trouble
w/ pack rats and other vermin making homes. Just
my opinion

...Not to mention, folks who take and fix up (if not fully restore) other old rat heavens, such as old homes, steam traction engines, cars, trucks, larger farm trucks, barns, wooden wagons....and the list goes on.
