4020 load bushings

Been working on 4020 changing load bushings out
Dad told me while back that one side had an oversized already in it. He never changed the shaft he just put new bushings and seals. But he said that he put some heavy duty retainer compound around it to help hold it. So I’m guessing that the oversized bushing that he put in their was too small, went and looked on John Deere’s part schematic they show two - three different oversized bushings. I also saw where their was a die bore type cutter used to bore out the hole little handy tool if I could ever get one, but wanted to hear from other people personal references or past experiences, in looking to do the job right and make sure the bushing isn’t loose fitted that what I don’t want.

Hi Cory, dunno if this will help but was my experience. Recently did same project on 1962 JD 3010. Maint history was unknown. Was leaking hyd fluid. Ordered bushing & seal kit and new LD shaft from Boling Machine in Oklahoma after being advised to on this site. Bought a couple shim washers from local JD dealer. I think maybe $200 total? Wanted to do it right the first time and be done with it. Pulled out seals, drove out bushings and replaced. I did stop by napa store to buy a seal puller for $10. Only needed one shim washer to shim between yoke and case. They say this is important going forward as well as to have your 3 point arms secured while not in use so they are not flopping around causing additional wear.

Cory I second the Boiling machine shop. I have used them on 2 JD 3020s. I used deere bushings the first time and had to tear it apart again in a year. If you have that much wear I would get the shaft from Boling also. IMHO the bushings from Boiling are superior to the deere bushings. I had already bought new deere bushings when I found Boling. I still have 2 new deere bushings in a toolbox lol. If you put them side by side you will see what I mean. Lee
