Kubota M135GX

Hey guys, looking for some input on the large kubota chore tractors. I am wanting to up grade my chore tractor/haying tractor, right now I use a JD 4240 its in good shape with tons of hours. I'm kinda tired of spending money on it all though it may never have too be fixed again if I'd sell it ha ha. We're a JD farm with two other trusty tractors I use all the time 4430, 2130. My neighbour and I work together and he has a 2010 ish JD 7130. Its crap really in my opinion besides the new, low hours, big cab. So im in a brand dilemma, we have a real good dealership here for massey, Kubota. Those orange tractors seem to be priced a little more appropriate for cattle man like my self. Wanna get some honest input, also scared of the 4 cylinder engines???? I like good HP

Can't offer any input on the Kubota but will say I would not buy a tractor with the def setup. Neighbor has a new Farmall 120c. Had it 6 months and it has about 100 hours on it because it's been in the shop more than at his place. Yesterday mechanic was out because it would only idle. Stopped up def injector, he cleaned it out, ordered a new one to be put in next week. If it wasn't a warranty job would have cost $500.

ya good advise, Iv'e heard a lot of bad reviews with DEF. Our winters can get pretty miserable and thats when I hear complaints about DEF good to know it acts up in summer too.

Kubotas are very cheap to own. You can run it for 15 years, trade on a new one and get 90% of it back.

Agreed, Showcrop.

I have 5 (one an RTV). Bought the first one new (little one) in 1993. In the 25+ years that I have owned it, it has needed nothing aside from routine lube, oil, and filters. NOTHING. Not so much as a fuse, fan belt, hose, or lamp. Nothing. Yes, it's a little 20 HP model and is given good maintenance, not abused, and kept inside but 25+ years with no issues is impressive.

I experimented with two new Massey Fergusons in 2007-2010 and had multiple issues with both. Moreover, I was treated badly by two MF dealers and AGCO. Both MFs have been sold with very low hours and replaced with Kubotas. I will never again do any business with AGCO.

I have the M135GX tractor with the M51 loader,
bought it new July 2014. Replaced my CaseIH 5140
with 510 loader perfectly. 5140 had over 8000hrs
and developed a taste for money. The Kubota M135
GX started its career on our 75-80 cow dairy as the
baling, and ploughing/ primary tillage tractor. Pulls 5
bottom plough easy. We do wet wrapped hay,
loader handles bales well. Comfortable cab, and
easy to get in and out of. This tractor was demoted
to yard tractor last year. Now packs silage in bunk,
feeds cows, move bales and loads manure. Has
1500 hours now, and I will keep it till 2500-2800
hours, pending any changes in our business plan. I
like this tractor and will only turn it in at this time to
get the best trade allowance, as it will still be a very
desirable tractor on the used market. Only tractors I
will ever keep over 5000 hrs are my classic tractors.
Last year I bought a M6 with M51 loader to replace
the M135GX. The M6 uses the DEF fluid, so far , no
big deal. Most that I know have a tractor with DEF
have had no problems with theDEF. People that
don?t have a DEF tractor tend to trash talk them,
and have no first hand experience with the tractors.
Given the choice, I would prefer not to have DEF,
just one more thing to buy. My tractors are not show
ponies, and I have no interest in the company or
and dealership, just a farmer. Bruce

Keep it coming boys! I like the input, This time around I don't want to rush into any thing. Another friend of mine has M6 or M7 I want to get his honest opinion. We actually have two Kubota dealers here see what they have or can do for me.

We have a 126Gx. It is our main tillage
tractor. Replaced a 4040JD. Pulls a 12x23
White no-till planter. 15 ft do-all. Just
got done spraying beans. 1000 gal sprayer
60 ft booms. They have a lot of neat
features. Like. Front wheels can be set to
speed up in a turn. Makes it turn sharper
than a two wheel drive. Can set how high 3
point lifts with a knob. And lowers. Then
you can use a rocker switch. Throttle also
just hit switch and motor slows to where
throttle is set. Then hit again and speeds
up where knob is set. Gov is electronic
does not vary any. Also motor is a torque
monster. Trans is 3 ranges. 8 powershift
gears. Front axle is spur gears so axle is
higher than center of wheels.and it doesn't
jump when turned to lock.

This summer, i decided to trade up my almost 10 year old Formal 95. Looked first at Kubota as i have a 7040 with loader. It does what i want it to do, but its way too light to be an almost 70 horse
tractor. It acts more like a 45-50 horse. Last fall i needed to make a few cornstalk bales with a smaller New Holland round baler. When the bales got close to being done, the tractor would rock. Had
to go real slow and was happy to be done after about 20 bales. The front end assist is light and had to replace bearings even though i was careful not to abuse it when loading manure- fortunately
was still under warranty and the dealer was good about it. Also be sure to keep checking the wheel nuts. The dealer had an M5 in stock, but i could see that it was way too light for tillage, etc. The
dealer didn't have the bigger M6 and said they could get one from another dealer, but couldn't offer any special pricing or deals. To make a long story short, bought a JD 6110M. From what i see now,
it is a great tractor and so much better than what i had before and light years ahead of the Kubota. Of course it is a bigger tractor and will be used for bigger jobs. Got one that had a few
demonstrator hours on it and paid less than the orange brand. Really happy right now with the JD, but , of course, time will tell.Everybody says Kubota is so great, but you can get problems too -
neighbor got rid of his because it went through hydraulic pumps. I think they are riding a lot of hype right now and will eventually prove out to be just like any other brand. Be sure to get a bigger
model than you think you need as they are lighter and the horsepower ratings are made at higher RPM's than some of the others. Anything newer than about 2014 will use DEF- you will have to get it
if you want a more recent model year. The 6110M uses very little. again time will tell.

I guess I have a different opinion of my Kubota M7040 than you do. It's handled several 100 probably 1000's of 4X5.5 rd bales with no problems. When AC compressor clutch failed on my JD 4255 the M7040 pulled my JD 467 rd baler for few 100 bales with no problems.Maybe the cast rear wheels & fluid in rear tires keeps mine from rocking making 4X5.5 rd bales. One thing is for sure the hyd shuttle has no relays to fail similar to a JD which I like as it's cable controlled.

I don't know if you can really compare a M7040 to a JD 6110 there is a big difference there in tractor, but sound advise in getting one size bigger than a guy needs. It tends to always be the better choice with everything always getting bigger and bigger. It sounds the kubota is right there with the competition as far as comfort and handling and usability. I just dont know about that 4 cylinder? would it pull 26 feet of deep tiller or pull type combine 7721 if it had too? I don't think i have to worry about DEF yet, can't afford that new of tractor yet lol
