My FIL was always active, doing something. He would say this, changing the job name to fit the work. " You know I'm not the Plow-man, I'm not the Plow-man's Son, But I'll stay here and plow this sod, Until the plow-man comes!" R.I.P. Ray.

My Dad has been gone since 2001, Mom I lost in 1997,, Mom liked to say "If you cant say anything nice say nothing at all" and "Kill them with Kindness" Dad had a lot of them but one that always rings true even today was " A roughneck could tear up a anvil with a rubber hammer" we sold thousands of Case 580 backhoes to the oil field here from 66 through 76,, not much we did not see they would do in the "patch"

Dad used to say....... if I could buy him for what he's worth and sell him for what he thinks he's worth I'd never have to work another day in my life

My father was a product of the Great Depression so almost every "conversation" started with; 'When I was your age we were so poor that .......' (fill in the blank). i.e.'we ate dirt for Christmas' or ' we had to get our weather second hand from the county next door'. Needless to say I didn't talk much with him and when I turned 18 left the house and never looked back.

Grandpa Lewis Mitchell used to tell me to use my head for something other than a hat rack. He also used to say that "a boy's a boy, 2 boys are half a boy, and 3 boys are no boy at all." gm

Not dad, but a foreman that worked at the same factory as I did. He was talking about one of his worthless charges. "If he were mine, I would trade him for an old yeller dog and then take the dog out and shoot him!"

One saying I developed due to a Dentist I once visited:

If he was half as good as he thinks he is----He would be twice as good as he really is.

Boy could I ever add right on to your post and you couldn't tell the difference. The old man usedd to say, What are yuo gonna do be a dumb truck driver all your life ? I said that at leeast I could set down and push pedels and not have to milk cows and pick stone and put up hay in those wire bales etc. And that is just what I did. Had the best job with a Teamsters Union Company. Made good pay and had the good life and now retired with a good income with my Teamsters check and ssi. Great life, Don't owe a cent to any one. Have two homes a new car and a late model pick up. Life is great and I never looked back. Old Scovy.

My dad's favorite was "I'll scratch a poor man's a** as long as I live". It took me some time to figure that one out.

My dad liked to point out that "...if everybody had all the money they wanted, it wouldn't be worth nothin'".

I was lucky to have a wise Dad. One of things he said; the boss ain't always right but he's always the boss.
One from the heavenly Father; a good man is kind to animals but even the kindness of a evil man is cruel.

My dad passed earlier this year, 91 and in good humor till the end. After he had suregery some time back in reference to the pain involved he said, "Gettin old ain't for sisseys."

My Father always said "It was better to be thought stupid, than to speak up and remove all doubt."

Another one. "Wish in one hand and spit in the other and see which one gets filled first."

There is a difference between a want and a need.

One time when I was 15 years old, I worked for a neighbor all day one Saturday and he paid me $2. I came home with blisters on my hands and told my Father I only got paid $2 and would never work for the neighbor again. My Father replied "You have two more dollars than you had this morning."
