Independance day

Just got back from 2 weeks in Wisconsin at my sons place. Been catching up on reading the local paper. Found out it's gonna be a noisy Forth of July this year. Celebration has been about a mile and a half away for as long as this 75 year old can remember. Starting this year it will be at the school athletic field, less than a half mile away. Expect a lot of in-laws to celebrate. I haven't been to see the fire works in over 30 years because it was a very long walk that I couldn't handle. Been going to the top of the hill behind my daughters house where we could cook out, swim in the pond and watch the fireworks in at least 3 different towns from a distance. I think there's gonna be quite a crowd here on July 4th.
Have a safe and happy 4th of July!

As you probably already know, if you have a dog, make sure the dog is inside somewhere, or you may not see the dog again. One year I came back from watching fire works, and my neighbors dog tore apart our screen door trying to get in our house, away from the noise. Stan

I can surely understand. Growing up in a rural area south of I 10 in South Central Texas fireworks were not part of the 4th. The VFD prohibited it fearing wildfires. I never saw a large display until July 4, 1982 after we moved here just south of Austin. There is a big display down on the lake running thru downtown, normally the Symphony plays and they fire National Guard howitzers during the 1812 Overture. Don't go now. I hate the crowds, the traffic and the parking. My late wife and I went to the third Willie Nelson 4th of July Picnic in 1975 too. Don't do that either. Happy 4th y'all

Patriot John Adams in a letter to his wife Abigail on April 3,1776 ,Philadelphia.

"The second day of July 1776 will be the most memorable epica in the history of America. I'm aft
to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It
ought to be solemnized with pomp and parades with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and
illuminations. From one end of this continent to the other. From this time forward for evermore."

"My late wife and I went to the third Willie Nelson 4th of July Picnic in 1975 too. Don't do that either."

My wife and her brother attended that one. I "Didn't do that." When they got back I debriefed them..........I made the right decision for your same reasons. Wink!

Local news says that the city of Irving, between D and FW in the DFW metroplex will have 40,000 flags out for the occasion.

Luckily Flagstaff, AZ will not have an organized fireworks show due to Red Flag conditions. But there are always a bunch of a-wholes that will be shooting off aerials and guns. Wednesday I will bring the dogs in and turn out all the lights and watch a movie. Not even going into town for whatever is going on.

I will do my normal routine. Stay home and watch tv. To hot and dry for fireworks. For several reasons it is just another day.

That one in 1975 was on a ranch owned by some folks I knew and was about 10 miles from my hometown. We were going too but my wife's grandmother passed. As it turned out it was wet enough for fireworks.

In the late 70s or 80-81 I went to a Willie Picnic in the Cotton Bowl, it was a hot, dry and second hand smokey day.

For the last several years, we have been content to set on our front porch and watch the fireworks from 3 miles away. When the show is over we just go to bed. No large crowds to fight, no problem finding a parking spot, and no traffic to fight.
