Worst Day Of A Dog Owners Life....

I lost my beautiful German Shepard today. Mom though she had a stroke yesterday morning , and she quickly went down hill. She made it through last night, but she went to sleep for a nap today and didn't wake up.

I hate to say it, but it was for the better. I couldn't stand to see her suffer.

She was 16, and will be greatly missed. This is the first family death I've ever dealt with. It's amazing how you prepare yourself for something like this and it seems okay, but then when you hear the news, it hits you like a wall. Everything you thought would happen, and prepared yourself for, just goes out the window.

Really sad, but like I said, she is in a better place and is happy. And hopefully one day she will come back to me.

So sorry to hear that. We lost a beloved Brittany in January and we still miss him. I hope you find a new friend when the time is right. It 's the only thing that helps.

Sorry to hear that Bryce I love my dog just about more than anything My dog is ten years old this year and I know that day is coming someday . It hurts bad to lose part of the family and it doesn?t get any easier I?ve lost several dogs and horses and it is always very hard to deal with

I am sorry for you too. All of my life on the farm and now, there have been several dogs and many many beloved cats. None of them are easy. I always hope that they are somehow nearby in my memories and we will see them again. Keep them all in our hearts.

Yes, Bryce, That is The Worst Day. I have lost several of my "Friends" it just does not get any easier. I am so sorry for your loss. It sounds like you gave her a great life. I will/am praying for you. Dsmythe

Sorry to hear of your loss. It is never easy to lose a loyal friend. You can have some comfort knowing you gave the dog a good life. Stan

So sorry for the loss of your long time companion.

She will remain forever young in your memories of her.

All of us have experienced the same grief you are feeling at this time.

Two years ago I lost two, Sandy and Bandit, in one day.

One year ago, we found these two dumped puppies, Tailer and Charlie (Charlesetta), in front of our home.

All the love we would have given to Sandy and Bandit is now given to Tailer and Charlie.

Keep the love you have for your German Shepherd going for your next canine companion.

So sorry for your loss.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

At 16 it sounds like you two might have grown up together, maybe she was an extra sister in your family. It's good that you had each other.

Be careful if you choose to get a replacement, many German Shepards get hip problems before the age of 10.

So sorry for your loss Bryce. I have read other tailers posts of loosing there friend and understand how hard it is. You will always have the memories of them. I too will face some day the loss of my best friend. They are like family. I say dont forget the friends memories you had together, but to get another friend.

Bryce, So sorry. I understand how you feel.
We had a border collie show up Dec 31, 1999. She would sometimes sleep on the porch, and if it was cool,we would see kittens laying on her to get warm.
She became one of the family. She had one stroke and recovered.
Then she had another and slowly went down hill and went almost blind and deaf. When she could not find her way back to the house during a rain, we found her shivering and wandering around.
Had to have her put down. A very sad day for us.
It was always funny to give her a cookie and watch her go bury it to eat later.
Her name was Floppy.

Sorry for your loss. Only thing I can think of that is positive is she lived longer than most large dogs and must of had a good life with good owners.

I know exactly how you feel, Bryce! I had to put my beloved Lhasa Apso, Muffin down before last Christmas. She had lymphoma and had rapidly gone downhill and was in pain. It was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life...

They are members of the family and everyone mourns their passing as such, sorry to hear about your loss, it?s okay for a man to cry, it?s ok to grieve and in time you?ll find peace and make friends with a new pup....

Sorry for your loss. You obviously gave her a good life as 16 is old for a large dog. It's comforting that she went on her own terms and didn't put you in the position of having to make that decision.

Not the worst day. The NEXT to worst day. The worst is when you have to make the decision to end it. It is like executing a member of your family. I have had to face that decision twice. I can't think of anything that is more heartbreaking in the life of a pet.
My last dog was 17 years old. She got so weak and frail that she could not walk. I had to hold her up at her supper dish so she could eat or get a drink. I finally had to give in and take her to the vet for the last time.
Trust me. That was worse.
Count yourself fortunate that you had the company of a faithful pet for so many years.
Sorry for your loss.

So sorry for your loss. Time won't heal all of your wounds, but they'll diminish. Had to put my 12 year old mixed Lab mutt down June 19th, that hurt, but it gets better. Her litter mate is still with us.

Sorry for your loss. We had to put our 16 1/2 year Yorkie down on May 11. She went everywhere with us...I agree with Jim, hard to put them down but you know it is the last act of love for your wonderful friend.

Very sorry for the loss of your pup!
They truly are a part of our family and their loss
hurts deep, prayers for you my friend

It is the worse day of a pet owner when a beloved pet passes away. But I bet you had a lot of good days when she was still with you. Those are the days worth remembering. I suggest you adopt another dog when you feel ready. There are a lot of dogs looking for a home at your local Humane Society.

At 69 years old, I have had a dog or dogs, Cat or cats all my life. In every case there was the grief you feel. In every case I remember their name and the happy days they had and gave. Remember. Peace. Jim

Thanks for all the kind words guys. She did have a pretty good life! She was beaten and abused badly, and at about 2 years old was recovered by the local animal shelter. Dad adopted her at the front door of Walmart the minute we saw her, and brought her home. SuzzyQ my lab is right at the same age, and they were best friends for a lot of years.

My yard is full of them. Have one tree named Sheba because when she passed, and I had the hole dug, I dug up a tree sprig and planted it in the hole. Tree is over 30' now. I believe in when it's time, do the dog/cat a favor...put it down. Do grown men cry over their pets passing? This one does and one of my best friends, later in life, of a dog lover, was a Siamese Cat named Mr. Ching.

Sorry for your loss, it is a hard time in your life. Remember the good times, and grieve as long as it takes.

Glad you were a loyal pet owner and companion. Too many people will give up an animal for little or no reason. They do not understand that. To them, you are god like.
I wish you well. Soon a new animal will steal your heart. Don't worry, it is big enough for many fine animals.

Sorry for your loss. They truely are our best friends. I lost my two little girls 6 months apart, of all the pets I've had one of those two was very, very special. Been 9 months and I still miss her every day.

Sorry for your loss of a true friend. I am currently is a situation with my daughters dog. I am watching her dog while the family is away on vacation. The dog was diagnosed with cancer a month ago. The vet said then the dog could die at any time. In the last two days the dog has not eaten and anything it drinks comes right back up. I am given the task to take the dog to the vet tomorrow to have it put to sleep because my daughter won't be home for a week. I never thought it would bother me but it is.

It's a terrible time when you lose a friend like that. Your dog knew she was safe and well-loved and she left on her own terms. Hoping there is a dog waiting for a new friend when you're ready.
