Hydraulic fluid for a 4020

Been debating on changing oil out of 4020 for the transmission we have been using traveler brand of hydraulic fluid but didn’t realize that John Deere’s hy guard hydraulic oil has brake additive in it brakes grind on are tractor but lock up really tight when Turing.
Wanted to hear other people past or present experiences.

I use harvest king that Is the new John Deere spec not the old
303 type I have had good luck with it . If you don?t have a lot
of leaks I?d go with hygaurd but If it?s never been changed I?d
put the cheap in it for awhile with new filters run it then drain
that then put new filters then add the hyguard

Hy-gard has anti chatter brake additive for brake pads that helps if brake pads are still in usable condition. I don't know if Harvest King has a similar additive.

no problem with 303 , other than water condensation destryed brakes linings over
30 yrs , the steel pcs went thru out the system , blowing the noise hydraulic
pump and requiring halfadozen filter changes ..i now have a magnet in the belly
of my p/s 4020

This stuff is a viable alternative . A certain Deere Wizard in Washington State recommends it . http://tdc.ge/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/5_SPIRAX_S4_TXM.pdf

If Traveler hyd doesn't have brake anti-chatter additive listed in spec's then it's my WAG that it doesn't contain brake anti-chatter additive.

Don’t mean to sound like a retard but what does wag mean

Tractor originally called for 303 oil that had a sperm whale oil base. And since that oil is no longer available, there are better, newer oils out there that met or exceed the 303 spec. Oil has come a long ways since the 303 oil spec.
