Not a tractor- sorry- but this should be simple but my old mind is not working; I installed a newly rebuilt generator (Delco 6v- and the shop does great work)- also installed a new (made in USA) 6v regulator - truck does not charge while running. The generator has two posts and neither are hot when running. The regulator has the right post(battery post) is hot and the other two are not. Whats going on please? (6V positive ground). Thanks.

erify ARM on gen to ARM on VR and FIELD on gen to FIELD on VR. Field should be smaller wire than ARM.

A few things to do...

Polarize it. Spark the A terminal to the non-grounded battery terminal with the engine off.

Is the RPM up around 1200 or more?

Is the regulator base grounded to bare metal? If it has the rubber straps there will be a separate ground wire.

Grounding the field should make the gen charge full rate.

Hey Banjo guy, you stated "The generator has two posts and neither are hot when running."

The Gennys output is from its ARM post to case/frame/ground, no voltage there you say ???? Make sure the Genny is well
grounded !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"The regulator has the right post(battery post) is hot and the other two are not."

Of course, the BAT terminal is connected to the battery perhaps via an ammeter, so sure its hot

The FLD post on the Genny wires to FLD on the VR where it goes to ground.

The ARM/GEN on the VR should be the gennys hot post when running, but if she's not charging she's not hot WELL DUH

1) Did you Polarize the genny before starting?? try that. The shop- may have it at NEG ground !!!
2) Make sure the VR's metal case is well grounded to the tractor.
3) See if it charges when running if you jump the Gennys FLD to ground??? If so but NOT otherwise the VR is bad or not well
grounded
4) Sure you have the correct VR ?? Such as for a Class A or Class B system??

I have an alternator issue, just the opposite, my alternator is over charging
Is there a regulator inside the alternator.

okay....my bad- again......This is on me! Went back out to shop and found the "slip of paper" that came with the new regulator; says to "jumper the Arm post to Bat post" on regulator......guess what? All is working great! Sorry for the confusion ...I forget from job to job. Thanks again for all your help! :)

No way of answering your question without knowing exactly which alternator you have.

Thanks for the feedback. Often at a genny shop the genny may be polarized opposite from your vehicle SO YOU POLARIZE BEFORE STARTING else you could damage the VR...........
