What does bear do in the woods?

I'm not sure what they do in the woods, at least for fun, but one walked across my bean field in the last 2 days.

I liked to pooped my pants the first time I was walking the back pasture and came across some bear scat. It was just me, no knife, no gun, no stick....and the scat was still "fresh"!

I would later learn that this was/is an active path that some of the local bears take in order to avoid people. Been a long time, but I think the prints I saw were a bit smaller than in your pic.

you can tell if the scat is fresh if its still steamin!!!! and its real fresh if it aint hit the ground yet!!!! glad we dont have any of them critters here!!

Ran it to one on an atv trail once a few years ago. Son nearly crapped his pants. It just kinda wandered off the trail when we came up behind it. Not in any hurry about 20 yards in front of us coming out of a sharp curve. Closest I ever want to be. Run in to deer, turkey and coyotes all the time. First and only bear though.

I have been about 100 feet from live ones twice here. Last time right behind the house, I had just walked into the woods around a bend in the trail and around the next bend came the bear, we looked and both turned around and back the way we came. Other time I was walking the dogs, saw the bear in a dip in the field (about 100 feet away) and we went back to the house, looked out and the bear came right up to the front steps of the house then went up behind the house.

The reply that has existed for as long as I can remember (around here) is "Zoo Bears Don't". Course there are no bears around here. A few hogs and cats, but no bears.

What they do for fun around here anyways is manage to eat all of the Saskatoon berries off the trees a few days before they are ripe enough for us to pick.
