Old Style Rivets

Hi All,

I am re-lining the brakes on my dads JD B and I am trying to figure out what tool is used to press the rivets. They are the older style rivets (came with the linings from New Paris Tractor) that are pressed to curl outwards with the flat solid bottom, so they are not pop rivets. I cannot seem to find the right tool, and google is not coming up with much in the way of what it is/where I can get one.

So the question is, what is the name of the tool to use for this and where can I find one cheap? This will likely be the only use I have for it

Thanks,

Do you have a set of roll pin punches???? Not straight pin punches, roll pin punches. If you do then just put a bolt/rod in a vise the size of the rivet head. Hold the shoe and lining with the rivet centered on the bolt/rod. Then take a roll pin punch and set the rivet. Easier with two people but I do them by myself. The key is the roll pin punches have a ball centered on the head that works great for setting hollow center rivets.

I do not have one but I can see if the auto parts store or anyone has one. Thank you for giving an idea what to look for!

Happen to be putting new brake lining on my airplane now, they use the same rivets, got the tool from Aircraft Spruce, it's the screw type so less chance of cracking the lining at the hole, Alan
