Hey Loren,or other DB guys

A while back, somebody was having problems with a David Brown 3pt. It would go all the way up or all the way down, but wouldn't stop in the middle. You told him to turn that knob by the levers to a certain position. That leads me to this. Nelson LeCount was just here looking at my Oliver 500. It has a Pioneer coupler on that line that comes off that valve body to the left of the seat, and goes out through the cross box. There's another Pioneer coupler on an elbow on top of the PTO housing.

Nelson said he had just looked at another one this afternoon that had a loader on it that was being run off the lever for the 3pt.

Question is,is there a position to turn that knob by the levers to,that sends pressure to the line that my Pioneer coupler is on so that coupler is usable by using the 3pt lever?

I don't know about the oil at your coupler, but you turn the knob fully counterclockwise to have depth control at the lever.

I don't have the same valve body as yours. I do have a line attached to the back of the cylinder where that valve is. It will extend a single acting cylinder when the 3 point lever is raised.

Randy, not quite sure what was used for a hyd. system on your vintage of DB. The control knob I described was used with the Select-0-matic hyd system. Not sure yours was like the 80s systems. On them there was a diverter valve with handle bolted to the front of axle housing to route oil flow to a loader valve for example. The little selector lever I was referring to would allow the operator to select Top link draft sensing, position control, or TCU which allowed hyd traction control with 2 pt. implements such as a semi-mounted plow.

I guess I'll just have to do some experimenting with those knobs and see if anything makes pressure to the coupler. Thanks.

I looked in my operator manual and parts manual about the valve that is on the left of the seat.

Parts book calls it "3 WAY VALVE PACKAGE". Makes me think it was an optional item. My 500 does not have one and it does not appear that there ever was one.

There is not much said in the operator manual about it either. No description or anything, just a paragraph.

"If a three-way valve is installed, the valve for the internal system should be closed and the one for the external system opened. The tractor should not be operated with all three valves closed or for long periods with the control lever fully rearward when the override control is disengaged. This causes the pump to work at full pressure with unnecessary wear and heating of the oil."

Without an illustration to tell one which knob is which, I'm not sure how you would figure out which knob does what.

Maybe some Google time might find an image or explanation...

That's clear as mud isn't it. Both of mine have that three way valve. The gas just has a big pipe cap on the fitting on the end of the line.
