OT Honda Atv Problem

I have an old 1985 Honda 250 Big Red. I bought it new and after 33 years of faithful service. I cannot get the parts I need to fix it. I have two 4 other AYV's but like the old Big Red. The left hub and axel are stripped. I have searched for used parts as no new ones have been made for the past 15 years. I ran it for a while with the hub and axel welded but has broken loose. For a price I can find an used axel but no left hubs. I was wondering if a later swing arm assembly could be put in or if a right hub could be modified to fit on the left side, There is a lot of pressure on the left hub because all of the rear braking is on the right hub and the brake takes the torque while the traction of the left when puts torque on the axel. Hope some Honda ATV people are here. There is a Honda ATV forum, but I do not know how to use it.

First thing is to figure out the Honda ATV forum- here's a link to the page, then go to "Register", sign up, and post pretty much like you post on this forum. Looks pretty straightforward. I'll bet you find someone there who has the parts you need.

50 Big Red is a great machine. I went searching my spare pars and found another hub. The splines are worn and the axel now does not have good threads. I plan to put it on aand weld it fast until I can get an axle and hub. I ride this one almost every day and leave the other 2 setting. In the summer I keep a 15 gal sprayer on it.

'85 250 Big Red 3 wheeler was my favorite atv. I also have an '84 200 (with the high/low/reverse), but liked the setup on the '85 better. Had the hub strip on the '85 once too, part was ~$175 ~20 years ago. I quit driving them in about '02 or so. The '85 still ran, had a minor issue with the front wheel bearing. '84 had electrical issues. Paid to have it fixed twice in a row after spending ~days in my spare time trying to find the issue myself. Got it home the last time, worked great for a week. Shut it off, wouldn't start again. Guy said he spent a lot more hours looking through the thing than he charged me for the last time. Also have an '84 200 4 wheeler, but it was always junk, bent frame, seemed to run hot/never ran right.

Another parts place, might be able to find something.

I had a Suzuki that did that. I and the machine shop built up the axle, reamed out the hub to solid material , broached a keyway, turned the axle to fit the hub & milled a keyway in it too. Tried to get everything to fit tight. It ran for many years after that.

Moonlite37,
The part number for your rear axle is a 42310-HA0-000. The part number for your left hub is 42620-HA0-000. Courtesy of Partzilla.com. They too say "out of stock" and that is where I get a lot of my ATC-ATV parts. Search on ebay, or see if there is a motorcycle/atv salvage yard nearby. Also, lawn mower salvage places often have the Honda trikes "back behind the shed." Good Luck.
